Newbie question

I have a while to go before I give birth but my doctor induces all 1st time parents at 39 weeks. I have heard that being induced makes labor alot more painful... is this true?

why wait for a natural labor when you can make money off an induction and the subsequent interventions?

    I agree - GRRR!

  • WTH is the reasoning behind that??
  • As the patient, I'd say "Umm, no. If you want to induce me before I'm late, then go ahead but I'm not paying for it and I want you to sign a waiver saying I'm not responsible for charges incurred for an induction before I am 40 weeks."

Even that is a bit ridiculous. It's not just about the money, it's about the fact that a physician is doing something that the American Medical Association advises against because of the increase of complications.

That doctor is basically saying, who CARES if your baby or body is ready for labor-- want to tell everyone when their kids should come out.

  • my SIL was just induced at 39 weeks with her first, as she requested, and it amazed me at how willing the doctor was!!  i also was there for the laboring/birth and i will say it seemed a lot more difficult than a friend's non-induced labor.. (although i realize each person is different..)

  • Did anyone tell this girl to take charge of her own body and get a new doctor if he insists on sticking to this ridiculous policy?

I love my midwife. No such stupidity.

  • Right, but the point is that a doctor would never go for it if he/she knew the patient wasn't going to pay for it. It would be extreme, anyway- the patient has to consent to medical procedure except in the case of emergency, yes?So I doubt it would ever even come down to something like that. I think all she has to say is, "I don't want that."?
  • Wow. That's just fucked_up. I think I'd get the hell away from that practice.
  • That dr is a douche. Another reason I'm glad I don't have an OB.

  • That OB makes the good ones look bad.  There's no way in hell mine would do that.

  • I wonder what her insurance would say?  There is NO WAY I would put up with that.
