Preterm labor and Betamethasone

So I ended up being admitted this past Sunday for regular contractions that caused me to dilate some and thin my cervix. I had to stay in the hospital and get two doses of Betamethasone shots for the babies lungs incase she does decide to come early as I'm only 32w. Just curious if any STM have any experience with the medication and did you end up delivering early or make it full term?

Edited because autocorrect hates me today!

Re: Preterm labor and Betamethasone

  • Hi there! I went into labor at 27 weeks with this pregnancy and received Betamethasone then. So far I'm still pregnant and I'm 33 weeks 5 days now. My last baby was born at 36 weeks and my first was born full term, but neither of them received the steroids.

  • My now 17 yr old tried coming at 23 weeks.I got the shots and he kept cooking til 33 weeks!  Positive thoughts sent your way she keeps cooking for a few more weeks atleast !
  • I got the shots at 31 weeks when my cervix shortened to 2.2. We'll see if the baby makes it to term. My son was born at 36w3d but we had no advance warnings so he didn't get the shots. I wish he has since he had respiratory issues as an infant.
  • If I am reading your question right the betamethasone shots only help development, but do nothing to prevent labor.  When I went into preterm labor 13 years ago I was given other meds to stop labor like terbutaline.  I did end up delivering early, but it wasn't related to the steroids.

Yeah it was just to help with lung development, I stopped contracting on my own with fluids and bedrest. Just curious if any other moms had the shots and how it turned out for them and their LOs. I'm hoping she stays in there for 4 more weeks!
