We have a tummy time mat with lots of colors and a detachable mirror and a little pillow that LO can prop himself up on. We try to do two 15 minute sessions a day but if he is getting super fussy, I usually stop and try again later once he has calmed down or will lay down and do tummy time on me!
For us, it sometimes helps to have a toy that makes noises and has bright colors and move it back and forth in front of him to try to get him to follow it.
DD just screams. The whole time. And for like an hour after. She's got good head control when we're holding her, but won't or can't lift her head when she's doing tummy time. I feel terrible making her do it, but then I feel awful when I see people's babies doing so well with it. I've tried the mat, mirror, boppy, rolled up towel, infant massage during, and nothing helps.
Most of DD's tummy time are done on me, but I'll also use the changing table and a mat on the floor. I always put her arms infront of her with her elbows underneath her so she's sort of resting on her forearms. It makes it easier for her to lift her head and she gets less irritated. If she's on the floor I'll lay down too and talk with her.
My LO is going to be 11 weeks on Saturday. He does plenty of tummy time lying on my chest/stomach (this is the easiest way to get him to burp) and I also put him on the floor on a thick receiving blanket for 5-10 minutes 4/5 times a day. I also like to prop him up on his forearms while on the floor so he gets less irritated, and just last Friday he started rolling onto his back from that position!
DD is 9 weeks and is not a fan of tummy time. I only put her down on a quilt for a few minutes (5 tops), and DS and I get down on the floor with her to cheer her on and distract her. She's pretty good at pushing up but just doesn't want to be on her belly.
I only just heard that I'm supposed to encourage tummy time daily and LO is 7 weeks. So we've been trying it these past few days. I usually put her on the bed or couch with a receiving blanket on top, so the surface is soft for her. Sometimes she loves it, but sometimes she hates it. Haven't figured out the best time that works for her... but it seems to be more successful when we put a toy that lights up in front of her. That tends to distract her from the discomfort of the extra muscle effort...

This is my LO... She's 13 weeks. I'm just being patient with her.
I've been trying to lay them on their bellies across my arm and they'll lift their heads and look around so I figure that has to count for something.
A user somewhere at some point on the Bump said that any time your LO in not on their back can constitute as "tummy time". If that little head is lifting, they're exercising those muscles so hey, whatever works, right?

Have you tried laying down on your back, with your LO belly to belly on you? Also, how long are your tummy time intervals? My son still won't tolerate more than ten minutes max, and I only let him go that long if he's particularly gassy, it really helps him to expel plenty of farts.
I tried that the other day and she seemed to tolerate it a little better. she's only going about 2-3 minutes max and 90% of that she's screaming. She'll give me that much if she's on some kind of angle.
Our girl does really well propped on the boppy. It lifts her so she can look around and she seems to actually use her arms more. When we just lay her on her tummy in her crib or on the floor we have to move her arms and she only lasts maybe 2 minutes before crying. On the boppy she easily goes 10-15 before I insist on a break (which actually upsets her).
How soon after a feeding is it recommended to do tummy time? DS is 12 weeks today, stays up for 60-90 minutes at a time, including the time it takes to feed him. When I've tried tummy time, he spits up a lot and rubs his little face in it. I try to follow the wake, eat, play, sleep routine. There just doesn't seem to be enough time between feeding and nap time so that he doesn't puke all over the place during tummy time.
@mrsbearmomma this happens to us too no matter how long after feeding. I generally try to wait 20-30 minutes. Some days are better than others but I just make sure to keep an eye on him, pick him up when I see it happening and wipe his little face (and blanket) clean!
@Mrsbearmomma we have the same situation. Usually he spits up some within 20 minutes of feeding often during a diaper change. After that I'll keep him upright for another 5-10 minutes and try tummy time. It's working better than putting him right on his tummy after a feeding.
I try to do tummy time after every diaper change, except for the early morning and late night feeding. LO has pretty good head control and rolled over last week! But the longest he lasts is around 10 minutes before he gets upset. He is enjoying it more the stronger he gets. I put up mirrors and books (with black and white contrast) to encourage him, and play music.
wow look at him go! We are around 15 weeks and my little girl isnt that biggest fan. She does pretty well if I roll something up under her arms so it supports her a bit and she can see more, otherwise she gets bored quickly and just lays there. I told the ped. that I was concerned on our last visit so she picked her up and put her on her tummy on the bench, I think she did about 5 pushups straight away and the ped. just said no, shes totally fine.. little stinker! I am def. going to try the tummy time after a diaper change, that seems like a good routine.
