The twins do 14 hours straight a night. Once in a while someone will wake up in the middle of the night if there is a dirty diaper or someone wants water or doesn't feel well
So jealous of you with babes that are sleeping through the night. We still have at least one wake up, sometimes more. Usually I am able to get him back down without feeding though. The only time I nurse him is if I know he's not feeling well/ teething pain.
One wake up is a good night for us. I still struggle with insomnia too, so I can't wait for everyone to sleep through the night. Not expecting it any time soon unfortunately.
This last year has been challenging. I miss sleep.
DD has slept through the night since about 13 weeks, with a few standard interruptions (4 month regression for a few weeks, teething and needing tylenol here and there, when she first learns a major new skill for a night or two, etc).
ETA: now if mommy could just sleep through the night, we'd be in business.
I jinxed myself yesterday!! He woke up last night from 11:30-12:30 and then again at 3:30. I think I learned a lesson about commenting on this subject!
I feel better seeing I'm in good company with others waking up in the middle of the night. Until just recently we've had to wake her up once a night to feed her because of a prescription she was on since about 3 months old. And since that prescription ended earlier this month, she wakes up once a night (varying times) but goes back to sleep quickly after she nurses. Later this month, early next month we'll be looking into some sleep training.
We are nowhere close to sleeping through the night. On a good night, he will sleep til 2:00 am, then wake once or twice more. That's ok, it is what it is, and we travel so much that he has no real consistency - other than being with his parents most of every day. He often spends at least half the night in our bed. We're fine with it. When we make our permanent move in ~August, we will work on better sleep habits for everyone. In the meantime, he gets 11-12 hours/night, is healthy and happy, and we're fine with how it's going. Trying not to stress too much - we spent several months doing that, and it changed nothing, just created anxiety for us. I wasn't a good sleeper as a baby, so who knows if it's genetic or what.
Our pediatrician told me at the nine and twelve month check up that LO did not need a middle of the night bottle. Around nine months though he got an 8 week ear infection (then tubes) and I felt like he really did that bottle - even if for comfort - so I kept at it. Two weeks ago, after some convincing from the other moms in my mom/tot group I decided to break him of the habit. Three nights (first being the hardest) and he was broken of it. They truly do not need that bottle/breast. For those still getting up, just do it. We not only broke him of the bottle but of formula too. I almost caved but my husband stood his ground. Now LO sleeps 8-10hrs a night and it's glorious!!! You can do it!!!
Im in complete agreeance with @btm013 ... One of my girls consistently woke up at 3am for 2 weeks starlight (after she had been STTN for quite sometime). Literally clockwork. One night we let her go, yes she woke her twin sister and it was totally rough but we're back on track and my twins sleep 12-13hrs a night straight! Bedtime is 7:30-8:00pm. During the week I usually have to wake them to get ready for daycare around 7am, but weekends we all usually sleep in until 8:30.
Really only the first night or two were rough and then she figured out it wasn't worth it and she didn't need it. She was never hysterically wailing though, usually just loud sobs so it wasn't too hard to let her go with it.
I'm glad I came back to read this thread. LO went from 1 bottle feeding at night to three. For the past couple of weeks he has been going to bed 7:00-7:30 and waking up at 11;00, 2:00 and 5:00. Refuses to sleep without the bottle. I think I created a monster. So my husband keeps wanting to feed just So we all get back to sleep. I NEED SUPPORT!
ETA: I don't think he is teething and appears he is not in any sort of pain.
its life changing right @beckyk9109 ? I wish I bit the bullet and did it sooner. I have a friend who is still feeding her son a formula bottle at age 2 and she is the one who pushed me the hardest to do it. I'm so glad I did. It's also important to have a partner who is on board. I'm the one who will cave the fastest whereas my husband sent me back to bed after I exhaustingly exclaimed "just give him the bottle already!!" Someone has to be the tough one. my husband deserves all the credit!
@beemaya83 you can do it! If you have a hard time going cold turkey, cut out one at a time, every few days. It will be great for all when you all are getting uninterrupted sleep! Like others said, LO will resist and cry for a couple nights, but with each of my girls I've been surprised how easily they gave it up!
I've been wondering...how long can I expect a one year old to sleep before waking up? To help make sure my question makes sense, here's some context to why I ask. My LO goes to bed about 7pm, and she tends to wake up about 4-5am (by wake up I mean is crying more than a little stirring), I nurse her and she goes back to sleep very quickly (I'm not rocking her or trying to get her to sleep besides just keeping the nursing session quiet/dark). Then typically wakes up about 7am. During weekends when we have her all day she has two naps, totaling about 2-3 hours sleep. Now with her waking up at 5am, I realize that's after about 10 hours of sleeping...is it unreasonable to expect to get her to sleep straight 12 hours to 7am? I know some babies/toddlers tend to just wake up for the day super early, but I don't think the 4-5am wake up is her "up for the day" wake up since she clearly wants to go back to sleep.
@lindsladle15 thank you for the motivation. I think I'll hold off until I return from vacation since LO will be staying with my mom.
I must add that I discovered LO is getting a molar tooth! I Suspect this the reason why he is waking up more often.
@enigmaticjj my son used to have that same schedule. I think that 5:00am feeding after 10 hours asleep is reasonable. 5:00am is just too early to be up for the day.
My lo is doing the same. She gets up around 5, she nurses then goes back to sleep until 6:30/7. She is asleep at night around 7pm, usually in the crib around 6:45. I do want to try to get her to hold off until 6:30/7 but she is just finally getting her 2 bottom teeth so she had a few bad nights.
Both of my girls (12 months and 24 months) will sleep about 7:30-7:30, so I definitely think they need 12+ hours from all I've read and seen from other parents. I wonder how many years they'll need that much? I don't know, but it's good with me! My 12 mo old also still naps twice a day for about 3 hours total.
LO goes to bed around 8ish (depending on his nap that day) and sometimes stirs at 5/6am but if we rock him for a bit he goes back down - sometimes until 9:30! It's glorious! I sit in silence enjoying my coffee. It's the little things!!

I don't think that's a little thing at all! Sleep and rest are big things in my book!
@lindsladle15, from what I've ready most toddlers 1-3 years old need 12-14 hours of sleep (between night sleep and nap(s)). So it seems after they transition from 2 naps to 1 nap (between 12-15 months), they have the same "schedule"/needs for a couple years.
How did you ladies cut out the middle of the night feed? I'm breastfeeding and when I go in to tend to LO she just keeps grabbing at my chest and trying to latch onto any part of my body
Is there some 1 year sleep regression? We had 3 months of goof sleep and now we're going backwards. Ugh. And im still breastfeeding too. I can't cut out the MOTN feeds Bc I just want to go back to sleep!!
We did some sleep training around 11 months, and It was working... then we went on vacation and the routine got all jacked up. To cut out the MOTN feeds the sleep easy book said to go in and feed LO before her normal waketime. So if LO usually wakes up at 2am, do a dream feed at 1am.... do that for all times he/she normally wakes up... then each night after that you decrease how long you are nursing by 2min until you eliminate those feedings completely. It did work for us the first time, and I plan to give this method another go, but I think we are in the middle of a teething period where LO is waking from some teething pain. And I believe the book said you really shouldn't try to sleep train when they are in pain/discomfort.
Re: does your LO still wake up at night?!
I notice it more when he isn't feeling well or teething.
