Round Ligament Pain?

*TW*

I'm getting very nervous as I have started having sharp pain in my pelvic area/lower abdomen every time I sit down. And it lingers for a little bit before it goes away. I'm scared this is the beginning of another miscarriage, but I've also been told it sounds like it could just be round ligament pain. I thought that didn't happen until the second trimester? Is it possible to have round ligament pain at just past 7 weeks?

I see the doctor on Monday, so I'll hopefully have a definitive answer then...but I'm driving myself crazy in the meantime. Anybody have experience with this?

Re: Round Ligament Pain?

  • My doctor said that the stabbing pain in my vagina was a normal sign of stretching. He wasn't specific about it being round ligament, though.

  • I find that drinking tons and tons of water helps with the stretching pain immensely!

  • RLP is later in pregnancy, but it's normal to have some pain and cramping.
    Implantation, uterus stretching.
  • You're not alone- I have had this too, especially when I'm on long walks or hiking. I like to call it lightening crotch lol. Whatever it is, my doc said it's normal.  I had it later in pregnancy with my last one and get it maybe once every couple of weeks typically when I'm moving a lot.
  • This is my third pregnancy and I have the same pain. If I move wrong while sleeping I will wake up with a sharp pain, it's round ligament stretching and I agree drinking lots of water helps. Usually the round ligament pain wouldn't come until later as the baby started growing, but my best friend who is a nurse in labor and delivery said that my body knows what to do and is getting ready for baby fast than before so thats possibly why I'm experiencing this pain sooner. I see the doctor on Thursday and will be asking just to make sure again, but I'm guessing it's what she will say it's from.
