First OB appt at 12 weeks?

Hi everyone! This is my first pregnancy. I had a positive test at about 4 weeks and I'm now going on 6. 

I called to make my first OB appointment and the doctors office said they like to conduct an ultrasound at 8 weeks to confirm and then my appointment with the doctor will be at 12 weeks. I was wondering if this is normal?

im just feeling a little uneasy about not speaking to a doctor for the first time until 12 weeks. It seems a little far out but I could be wrong? Please let me know! Thank you!!  :)

    This is actually very normal. Most of the women who see the doctor earlier than that are high risk or have a history of loss.

    I saw a Dr (or midwife) at every one of my appointments, but some of the visits were QUITE quick.

    Pretty normal my first visit was with a nurse at 8 where they did a dating ultrasound since I have irregular periods and then 12 weeks saw my dr the first time :)

    They prefer to see you between 8-10 weeks so if there is an option to see a nurse practitioner or physician's assistant earlier, I would try to get in with them. 
    They are every bit as qualified to treat you and it's a good way to get the ball rolling.

    Yes, this is normal. My first visit (dating ultrasound, with a nurse) was at 9-ish weeks, and I saw my doctor at 13.

    Normal. Every doctor does things differently. I didn't have an ultrasound until 12 weeks (and that's because they wanted to confirm dates) but it isn't routine unless you opt for the screenings.  I saw a midwife at 9 weeks but not before that. At such an early stage if some thing goes wrong, chances are it's a genetic issue with baby and was always going to happen.  Seeing a doctor would do nothing.

    Sounds normal to me, especially if it is a large or busy practice. My dr sees you at 7 weeks and does the ultrasound in the room (internal ultrasound), but different practices handle things differently.

    I AGREE IF YOU GO TOO EARLY IT CAN BE A BETA/QUALITATIVE/QUANTITIVE/TRANS-VAGINALULTRASOUND CONFUSING MESS! THANK YOU FOR SHARING AT 6 WEEKS I SPEND MORE TIME DEBATING MY POSITIVE TEST VS THE BETA NUMBERS THEY GIVE  YOU TO DEFEND.

    With both my previous pregnancies I've been seen for the first time at 12 weeks and haven't had any appointments before that, and no ultrasounds until 20 weeks. There really isn't anything to be done before then unless you have a high risk issue or medical history to indicate coming in sooner.
