1-hour glucose test

Hello everyone. Due to the fact I had a very large baby my last pregnancy, my Dr sent me for a 1-hour glucose test. So, I drank that nasty orange stuff and sat for an hour. During that time, I started feeling nausea (of course) but also dizzy. Then, when my time was up, they took me back and drew about 8 really large tubes of blood. Ever since I've left there (at about noon),I have had a blinding headache and I'm still getting dizzy spells. Is this normal??

Re: 1-hour glucose test

  • I would call your obgyn and ask. I don't remember feeling like that after, but everyone's bodies are different.

  • Thanks, I may do that. I wonder if that means I failed. Maybe it's symptoms of glucose intolerance. I sure hope not...
  • I remember feeling off. Not that bad at all...just like I ate too much candy. I thought for sure it would come back bad but I passed.

I remember feeling off. And I definitely napped after like crashing from a sugar high.
  • I took a 3 hour nap when I got home!
  • I had the two hour last time and felt pretty crappy afterwards. It took me so long to get my sugar levels back to normal and not feeling all dizzy and lightheaded.

  • I can't say if that is normal. It doesn't sound normal to me but I am not a doctor.

I didn't feel that way after the test either. I had it done much later. If i drank that now it might make me feel a bit ill but not dizzy. I would think feeling dizzy might be from the blood drawn but that was a while ago. As PP said, I would call your doctor.

One of my friends is a labor & delivery nurse. After her 1-hour test, she passed out in her car in the parking lot. She passed the test. I took it and felt fine. I got the GD diagnosis. She said that I probably felt fine because of how my body handled the glucose. I'm obvi not in the medical field so I have no idea if that's true or anecdotal.

    ETA: call your dr
