  • How far along are you?
    23 weeks
How did your appointment go overall?
Awesome! Had my first midwife appointment. It was very long since she hasn't seen me before but I really enjoyed it. She was very encouraging and aupportive of my vba2c.
    Any ultrasound or doppler?
None, since she is far away I am continuing prenatal appointments at home and transferring to her at 36 weeks.
Did your doctor or midwife answer any questions or concerns you had?
    Yes all of them.
For Fun: Boats? Beach? Pool? Sprinkler? What's your favorite summer activity - and best way to stay cool?
I love boating,  beach would be also amazing but I live no where near one. If I'm desperate I use the kids kiddie pool in the back yard!

How did your appointment go overall?
Short answer: I left in tears.
Long answer: I was told at my appointment 2 weeks ago that I need to cut back my stress because my BH seem to be a reaction to stress. I cut WAY back, rested a lot, etc. The cramping was greatly reduced so I thought I was good to go. Found out at my appointment today that my cervix shortened significantly despite relaxing. The doctor wants me to stop working until I'm at 30 weeks (first week of August). Unfortunately I don't have a job someone else can take over. If I'm not there it doesn't get done. And I am legally required to have all data collected and analyzed by September 30. I also have an international presentation next week I simply can't miss. I know I sound like a horrible mother but choosing between a safe pregnancy and achieving my life's primary goal is NOT easy.

    Any ultrasound or doppler?
Ultrasound to measure cervix. Also confirmed baby is wiggling with a beating heart.

Did your doctor or midwife answer any questions or concerns you had?
Yes, just not the answers I wanted :(

For Fun: Boats? Beach? Pool? Sprinkler? What's your favorite summer activity - and best way to stay cool?
Swimming, hands down. I LOVE pools. But I also love lakes and boating and rowing. Anything with water and I'm a happy girl.

  • @books&icecream, can you work from home at all? Do you have to travel for your presentation or is it being given over video chat? Sounds like a really difficult position to be in, I'm sorry you are dealing with this!

How did your appointment go overall?
Great! Measuring right on time, blood pressure and weight gain are perfect, fingers crossed things continue just as they are.
    Any ultrasound or doppler?
Doppler, baby's heart beat was strong and steady

Did your doctor or midwife answer any questions or concerns you had?
Yes. Braxton hicks have started, she said it's fine and to make sure I stay hydrated. If they become more frequent (>6 per hour) or painful to give her a call. Hydrocortisone is ok in small amounts for my itchy nips LOL.
For Fun: Boats? Beach? Pool? Sprinkler? What's your favorite summer activity - and best way to stay cool?  Beach mostly, but it's becoming too much work. Poolside with a book would be nice!

  • @books&icecream just wanted to echo what @LizaKate1213 said. I hope you're able to work something out, I'm sorry you're going through this, putting more stress on you is not going to help! :(

  • @books&icecream Aw, so sorry you're dealing with all that!  I would see if there's any way you can do any of your work from home.  Just removing yourself from the workplace can ease a lot of stress.  You're not a bad mother for having to keep working...after all, how are we supposed to support this little one?!  And, you've worked hard to get where you are - you shouldn't have to apologize for wanting to keep that going! Just take a moment here and there to remind yourself to take it easy. :) Good luck!!
  • How far along are you? 24 weeks

How did your appointment go overall? Great.  They were able to see the four chambers of the heart that they missed at the anatomy scan and everything looks perfect. I finally got a profile shot which was really exciting.

Any ultrasound or doppler? Follow up ultrasound since we couldn't see heart on a/s

Did your doctor or midwife answer any questions or concerns you had?  Yes, she said the heart palpitations are normal and only worry if they last more than 5-10min.   I asked what to do in case of preterm labor and she said to go to the nearest hospital to me not just the hospital they are win.

For Fun: Boats? Beach? Pool? Sprinkler? What's your favorite summer activity - and best way to stay cool? :).  Beach is my fave but since I'm 3 hours away from the closest beach pool is the best alternative
  • @books&icecream so sorry you're going through this! :( I don't think you sound like a bad mom at all!
  • @books&icecream I'm so sorry you're faced with such an impossible decision. I hope you're able to get through your presentation with minimal stress and can rest. Sending you all the positive vibes!

How did your appointment go overall?
Ok. My BP measured really high with the smaller cuff, but when she used the large cuff it came down significantly. It was still on the high side (144/86 - last time it was a perfect 124/78, but I have been stressed to the max this week). The nurse said the doc would talk more to me about it, but we both forgot and doc never mentioned it, so I'll just make sure to stay calm through the weekend as much as I can (I have that stupid outdoor wedding 4 hours away...) I see her again in a month!

    Any ultrasound or doppler?
We dopplered; she has at every appointment so far. He was bouncing all over the place cause I had just eaten lunch.

Did your doctor or midwife answer any questions or concerns you had?
Still not sure if I'm a VBAC candidate or not. They finally hunted down my records as I was leaving from last time (it was a different doc at a different practice) to make sure all the incisions are in such a place that I'm able to VBAC

For Fun: Boats? Beach? Pool? Sprinkler? What's your favorite summer activity - and best way to stay cool?
My in-laws have a pool, so on a hot weekend, I can be found in their backyard in the water!

How did your appointment go overall? Umm pretty well. We went in because our doctor at our last visit found fluid in the baby's kidney tubes So we had to go see another doctor with a better ultrasound. We were there for 3 hours. And finally found out that the one kidney tube has normal levels of fluid. The other actually went up since our last appointment. So we now have to go back every 4 weeks to continue to monitor the kidney tubes to make sure it doesn't go up or dilate anymore.

    Any ultrasound or doppler? Ultrasound

Did your doctor or midwife answer any questions or concerns you had? Yea they were very nice and made sure I understood everything

For Fun: Boats? Beach? Pool? Sprinkler? What's your favorite summer activity - and best way to stay cool?  just laying by the pool or putting my feet in the water

  • @sjo_thetwins, I LOVE the names you have picked out!  And yay for an awesome scan!
  • How far along are you? 24 weeks today (appointment was yesterday)

How did your appointment go overall? fine

Any ultrasound or doppler? just doppler

Did your doctor or midwife answer any questions or concerns you had? the ones I remembered to ask! I wrote them down and I still ended up forgetting one. Boo. Also, I had borderline high blood pressure (was 140 on top) and redid after talking to the doctor and it was 136. She said to keep an eye on it and let her know if I have headaches or blurry vision. I have had some headaches, but I don't think it's blood-pressure related. I have a lot of sinus stuff go on. Also, I read online that pain under the right side of the ribs is a bad sign. I have felt a bulgy feeling on mine (not painful). That's actually the question that I forgot to ask her! So stupid.

For Fun: Boats? Beach? Pool? Sprinkler? What's your favorite summer activity - and best way to stay cool? I hate summer with a vengeance. I will be inside, with air conditioners and fans, possibly playing storm sounds and looking at pictures of snowscapes.

@RainMira9e what did you read exactly about pain under the right side of the rib being bad? I've been having right rib pain when I sit for a couple weeks now and when I mentioned it to the dr he said it's totally normal and just from the area getting squished when you sit. ETA: I read an article on Ovia today saying the same thing about rib pain. Are you talking about something more specific?

  • @books&icecream I'm sorry you're faced with this decision. Hoping everything looks good next week so you can still go!

@sjo_thetwins so glad everything went well today! The end of September seems so soon! Are they thinking c-section? (Ignore if that's too nosy!)
  • @ashleyp625 he said there's a 50% chance they will want to do a c section. If both babies are head down, I can go vaginal, but if one is breech, they won't risk it and will go for a c section. Which really, I'm not upset about because I just want the twins to be healthy - especially being twins and having more risks in general than singletons. I will try and go vaginally if baby A stays head down and we can get baby B to flip. :)
  • Good plan, @sjo_thetwins :) Hope B flips for you between now and then!
  • @lgw2015 It was about signs to look for if you have high blood pressure. I don't even know what the purpose was, which was annoying. Like, tell me it's my heart/liver/etc or something! Honestly I'm not that worried about mine because I think it is just squishy organs. I just wish I'd remembered to mention it to my doctor to get her back-up on that.

  • @nlane0723 keep us updated on fluid check/infection check. I don't think I realized you were having contractions all the time too. I'm having them too, everyday. And my cervix is measuring 2.9 cm. thoughts are with you!
  • How far along are you?  22 weeks today!

How did your appointment go overall?  So I got good news and bad news this week.  I had a follow-up anatomy scan and my gestational diabetes screening.  The follow-up scan went fine -- baby looks great and everything looks normal so far as the doctor who did the scan could tell.  The gestational diabetes screening did not go so well.  The cutoff for the 1 hour test is 140 at my office and I came back at a 153, so I need to do the 3 hour test, and if I fail that it's a gestational diabetes diagnosis for me.  Gestational diabetes is one of the things I was most scared of coming into this pregnancy because of my weight, so I'm kind of freaking out.  I know gestational diabetes is manageable, but I can't help but feel like I compromised the health of my child by getting pregnant at this weight, and that's a terrible feeling.  I've only gained 3-4 pounds so far this pregnancy but I haven't been eating as healthy as I could have been (plenty of protein and veggies but plenty of carbs/sugar too), and I'm feeling like I brought this on myself.  Fingers are crossed super hard that I pass my 3 hour test next week.

Any ultrasound or doppler?  Ultrasound -- baby looked good!

Did your doctor or midwife answer any questions or concerns you had?  For the most part.  I asked a lot of questions about gestational diabetes, and most of her answers were reassuring but some scared me.  What I really wanted to know was the chance that I was going to fail my 3 hour test given my levels at the 1 hour, and while she said a lot of women pass the 3 hour test she didn't give me a percentage.

For Fun: Boats? Beach? Pool? Sprinkler? What's your favorite summer activity - and best way to stay cool?   AC and the pool for sure.

@simcal18 I'm so glad your scan went well and I'm sorry about failing the one hour. I know it's easy to place blame on yourself but please know that you did not harm your baby. You have consistently posted about having a health conscious diet. Eating reasonbly healthy and indulging once in a while did not cause this. It is purely due to your placenta/hormones and how you metabolize sugar while pregnant. I'm keeping my FX that you ace the 3 hour with flying colors! Try not to stress too much. Like you said, it is manageable and your AS showed you have a healthy little peanut in there. *hugs*

Thanks so much @MRSCORKER.  Logically on some level I know that it's not totally my fault, but weight is a super-sensitive subject for me, and I have a lot feelings of self-blame and shame that come with it, so emotionally it's hard for that message to not come through.  It's also probably not helping that I talked to my mom the night before the screening and got a little bit of flack from her -- it was my birthday and I joked that there would be no ice cream or cake for me that night because I had my gestational diabetes screening the next morning, and her response was to say "well, you shouldn't be eating that stuff anyway" and ask some questions about the screening that indicated a little concern.  I'm seriously thinking of not saying anything more to her about it even if it turns out I do have GD because frankly I don't want to hear anything she has to say about the subject.  It is what it is at this point, so I'm just going to do the best I can to get through the next week and we'll see what the 3 hour screening next Friday morning brings.

  • @simcal18 just wanted to echo what @MRSCORKER said. It has nothing to do with you, your weight or diet as far as I know. It's purely about the placenta, it just comes down to luck. Fingers crossed you pass the 3 hour!

@nlane0723 and @sjo_thetwins are you both referring to Braxton Hicks? I have them every day too. For me it mostly seems to happen when I'm resting on the couch right after getting home from work. When I mentioned it to my dr he said they only get concerned if it's rhythmic and they get closer together, which would indicate preterm labor. It still really sucks though and it's hard not to worry. Good luck to both of you with your follow ups!

  • @LGW2015 yep, BH contractions. My MFM told me not to worry so long as my cervix stays closed, and they check that periodically now. So now I'm just worrying in between those appointments and wish I could put a mirror down there to see myself! Mine happen usually most times when I stand up from sitting, have an orgasm, not drink enough water, or walk around for too long. It varies.
