tommee tippee nipple size---too quick? suggestions for bottles?

Hi mamas==My LO is eating waaaay too fast, as in 10 min to suck down 2.5 oz with 2 90 second breaks in between.  As you can imagine, this is causing him a lot of gas because he's eating so quickly and  he also drips a lot of it out as it goes.  We are currently using Tommee Tippee with the slow flow nipples.  Have any of you had this experience?  Thanks.

  • Yes. TT bottles never worked for us and it seemed like the flow was off. We use Dr. Brown's and love them. There are more parts to wash but the vent system helps us so much with gas!

Ditto. Went with Dr. Browns as well, preemie nipple helped with our son who was definitely not a preemie but he was a guzzler. Also if you google "paced bottle feeding" you might also find some helpful tips to slow it down.
  • Another vote for Dr. Browns bottles. My first had success with playtex vent-aire with the slow nipples...

  • I'm using Munchkin Latch and they are amazing! My LO eats pretty fast whether it's from the boob or bottle, so I'm not sure about their flow rate, but they have an anti colic thing at the bottom that helps with her spitting up. She actually spits up less when I feed her out of the bottle than when she gets the boob. Although I'm not sure if that's something you have a problem with.
  • So much just dribbles out and I don't think he's getting the amount we actually make for him.  Poor lil man.  Trying to figure out his discomfort if its reflux, etc.

  • We love the munchkin latch bottles too. They are the slowest flowing ones we've found. The only problem is the nipple seems to be collapsing lately.

  • Had same issue with tommee tippee! Messy as well. Another vote for dr. Brown bottles
  • We didn't like TT either! We found the Medela bottles worked well.

Apparently that means you need to go up to the next flow rate. I got sick that so changed brands
  • If you google nipple flow rates, there are charts out there that show how fast or slow the flow really is. There is a huge discrepancy between brands. We use mostly Avent which is on of the slower ones. We also is a Munchkin Latch, but I never see it on charts.

  • The lactation consultant we've been working with recommended Playtex Natural latch slow flow, which have worked really well for us. We used to use the Avent ones, but the slow was too fast considering we were trying to get the little one back on the boob. We haven't had significant issues with gas (which the drop-in bag helps with).

2nd Playtex Naturalatch. A lactation consultant also recommended paced bottle feeding (Google it) to make going between breast and bottle as smooth as possible (if you're pumping and bfing)
