Telling coworkers

Have any of you thought about how you'll tell coworkers yet? I work with a smaller team so I wanted to do something kind of fun.

Re: Telling coworkers

  • I go back and forth on if I want to like add a powerpoint slide at the end of one of our weekly project reviews that says something like "In case you were wondering I'm not getting fat I'm pregnant" and has the EDD or something or if I just want to tell my boss and not mention it to anyone else until it's painfully obvious. If I do announce it I will wait until I'm definitely showing so prob after like 14 weeks so I've got time.

I've told Boss, and my closest project partner (also a great friend in general; he and his DH are bucking for Godfathers), but I too want to do something cute for the team. I'm thinking about talking about a Spring project we do every year and say something like "and the thing with the Spring project, is I won't be a part of it because I'll be having a baby." Just catch everyone off guard. Kind of how I've told everyone (ie 4 people) so far!

  • Oh I'm just gonna email my team....

I'll tell my boss in person. We have some major planning to do because February in accounting SUCKS. I'll also tell my work friends in person, I'm just not that close with the people on my actual team so I'm just going to shoot an email out:  "I'm knocked up, sorry I ate all the snacks".

I already told them all. I've been having all day sickness so when they got me donuts for my birthday and I declined to eat any my supervisor said "You're so pregnant." I was really bad with my first also, so it was fairly noticeable the change in my eating habits.
  • I am pretty sure I will just tell my bosses first and then the rest of my team.

I I am like the 4th person to have a baby on the team in a 4 month span so I am sure they will just say "cool".

  • I told my boss straight out when an urgent thing came up that conflicted with an appointment, and told my closest work friend today. I'm nervous to tell my board of directors, so when I do I want to hand them a written plan for my leave and return to duties. Not so fun, but there is a policy in place to protect my job at least.
  • I told My boss and the coworkers I work closest with. I have been too sick to hide it.

  • It came out a few days ago. My boss had an employee appreciation day where she took us to a fancy local hotel and we had lunch and hung out by the pool. There's only 4 of us and the boss, and they all kept ordering drinks and I kept ordering lemonade or water, lol. They already knew I don't drink much but I usually have 1 or 2 drinks whenever we hang out outside of work, so I had a feeling it would come out. After like the 4th time I turned down alcohol my boss jokingly said "are you pregnant?" and I couldn't keep a straight face. They all started screaming, haha.

  • I'm kind of nervous, because the team lead comes back from maternity leave next week and we are super busy right now. I've been with this company for six years,  but I  just started this position in March. So I'll be just shy of a year in my new position when I have this baby.

  • I told a few of my closer co-workers but I don't plan on making an announcement to the rest of the office.

  • I've missed a few days because of m/s so I spilled the beans. I work with all guys, and they're mostly single, college age, and clueless. But I figured it was only fair to be honest with them.
  • I am a teacher and actually found out I was pregnant the day before the scholl year ended. When I go back to school, I will be almost to 2nd trimester. I plan to tell my boss when we go back end of July/first of August because planning for a long term sub needs to start early. We plan to fully announce (including FB) very soon thereafter. Several of my coworkers are also FB friends, so I figure it will come out that way.
  • Ive only told 3 co workers and wont tell boss or the 20 othet coworkers until after ultrasound. Dh already told 12 of his coworkers!

This! Pretty much word for word! But I go back in September and just found out last weekend haha so the timeline is off!

  • **TW - M/C mentioned**

I might tell my boss fairly early. First, to justify the zillion appointments.  But more importantly, she ended up being  the first person I told about my m/c after my husband (because the morning I found out about the m/c was a crazy busy day at work and she was waiting for me to come into the office and deal with an issue.  Instead she got a call from me crying saying "I can't come in").  She's also had a m/c so we've had a handful of conversations about it since.  I figured if she's allowed to know so quickly about the bad news, she can know the good news too.

For everyone else - we're a virtual team, so I don't see other very often.  So I'll probably just send some sort of email announcement.

Me too! But man, Squirrel, you go back early!! I think I'll tell my administrators next week (after first u/s and I'll be at work) to make sure they hear it from me and not the rumor mill. I'll be about 15 weeks when we go back in late August, so the timing is pretty convenient for telling my colleagues.

Exactly! When I go back I'll have a small bump and it will be time to tell anyway!

Same for me!  I found out about a week before school got out.  I'll be about 16 weeks when school starts, and I suspect my bump will do the "telling" for me.  I'm moving up two grades levels in the fall, so all the kids I taught as 9th graders in 2014-2015 will be my students again next year.  I can't wait to see them flip out when they see me in September.

I'm excited for my kids to find out, too! I'll probably have 2 classes of kids I taught this year. What do you teach, MonaLisa? I teach HS too - remedial reading

  • We get out right before Memorial Day here in AZ. The kids start back the first week of August. Basically we get June and July off - of which 3 weeks in June is summer school, and the last week in July is back to school PD. I teach 7th and 8th grade Math. I think it's good timing though, at least I didn't have to deal with a lot of the first trimester yucky-ness at work. Lol

High five for another middle level math teacher!
  • A few people at work know. Most of my coworkers know about my ectopic surgery and that we were trying. My husband and I work together so I'm sure the several times we've left together at random times for doctors appointments is throwing up red flags. I'm not planning on announcing, just letting people know when it comes up in conversation.
