I say go for it! I've been eating them every now and then myself because it's quick and easy. If I go out, I order mine toasted (which probably isn't making a huge difference but I feel better about eating it).
Sameeeee! And a Caesar salad, but the only dressings that don't contain raw eggs are the ones loaded with processed stuff on the shelves in the grocery store #endwhinyrant
I feel dumb, but are sandwiches a bad thing? That's my go to craving and I have yet to deny it!
The very tiny risk of listeria contamination in cold cuts is why it is advised to avoid them. If you heat the meat to steaming, that mitigates the risk. Personally if I trust the deli the meat came from, I dont worry about it.

There are so many other foods (fruit and veggies in particular) that get recalled for listeria more often than deli meat, yet we are "allowed" to eat the other foods. Eat the sandwich. Heck eat 2.
I was thinking the exact same thing at lunch time. I would have given anything to have a peppered turkey Breast sandwich but I settled for Annie's Mac n cheese instead. I may just make myself one for dinner haha
Deli meat, shmeli meat. I think if our grandmother's were given the okay to smoke and drink a turkey sandwich is the least of our problems. I enjoy my sandwiches and caffeine without guilt.
I'm glad you ate the sandwich. My cousins are all in Europe and my rule of thumb is "if they're allowed to eat (not drink, I'm sticking to the no booze rule) it, so can I." I've had soft cheeses and charcuterie and haven't regretted it yet. The one time I got serious food poisoning (pre-pregnancy) was when I got giardia from a restaurant salad. I'm just saying that no one is saying you shouldn't eat salad and it too can get you sick.

It's actually really easy to make your own ceasar dressing - it's what I've been doing. Something like this one, though I usually skip the anchovies, chop the garlic and mix everything in a bowl. I also don't think my recipe has vinegar, but I don't have it here with me right now to confirm. https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ree-drummond/caesar-salad-recipe.html
I hardly ever want a sandwich when I'm not pregnant, but once I am I have cravings for an Italian sub. I haven't given in though. I did have a chicken breast sandwich though, which I tried to tell myself was better since it wasn't a cold cut, but I'm sure if listeria was present in the store, cross contamination is a huge possibility and I didn't have any issues. Heating deli meat just isn't the same.
I was doing good with the deli meat thing. I either avoided it or heated it up/had it heated up. I got tired of it. I caved last Saturday and finally got a Jimmy John's Turkey Tom. It tasted like heaven. I'm starting to ease up a bit on how strict I am with all of these so-called "rules". I'm more worried about pre-packaged lettuce, honestly.

I'm in the extremely better safe than sorry camp when it comes to foods, meds, etc. I've satisfied the sandwich craving by cooking my own turkey breasts and slicing it up or using leftover rotisserie chicken. I miss Italian subs like crazy, but a few months is nothing in the big picture, so our motto is "suck it up, buttercup" in this house. Ha.
@tjljsc I second the better safe than sorry. It blows my mind how I know four other pregnant woman who claim their Dr. never warned them about deli meats and soft cheeses, etc. I do the same with the turkey breast, it satisfies the craving. I told DH that I am having a delicious sub after baby :-)
@LadyBugMe101why would a doctors absence of a warning regarding deli meats and soft cheese "blow your mind". Personally my doctor never mentioned anything to me about those two items and told me to eat anything I want within moderation. So I have had sushi and deli meats multiple times. Do you feel like you are more informed than my doctor? Just curious.
@Leash14a ummmm no! what gave you that impression that I feel I am more informed than your doctor? I was informed by my Dr. hence why I was being cautions. I never told them don't eat that, or my dr. said this, I am no one to give them/tell them what to do. I just keep it to myself and avoid foods I was told to steer clear of. No doctor is the same nor is the advice and experiences we have with them.
You were much more likely to get listeria from processed meats near/prior to the early 2000s; at that time (at least in the United States) they started using ingredients that inhibit growth of listeria. That could be why certain Dr's don't feel the need to warn about deli meats anymore - it's not as active a risk. More likely sources now would be raw/contaminated produce, soft cheeses, and nuts.

to summarize these studies, it's safer to eat cookies and brownies than salads. That's what I'll keep telling myself. I'm just looking out for the baby. I swear.

Yup. I had a ton of frozen veggies one night in a fit of virtuosness, only to find out the next day that they'd just been recalled for listeria. I guess the baby knew what it was doing by demanding nachos all those times. Good lookin out, baby.
The salt in deli meat is going to do more harm compared to the miniscule chance that you may have contaminated products. Eat the darn sandwich and enjoy it.
Personally, I'm more concerned about the negative effects of alcohol and secondhand smoke (not that I'm drinking/smoking, but it seems like a bigger problem to me).

Take a look at recent recalls (specifically look for the Listeria ones) , it's eye opening:

and, just for fun:
