1st Trimester

Antidepressant Medicine & Surprise Pregna

I just found out today that I am pregnant with #3.   This was not planned, but we certainly will find room in our hearts for a new little one.  My concern is that I am currently taking some antidepressants and my husband and I are very concerned about how these will impact the baby.   I am on .5 MG Clonaxepan, 100 MG Quetiapine, 50 MG Zoloft, and 120 Duloxetine.

I plan lane on calling my on and Psychiatrist in the Morning.  What do any of you know about these drugs and pregnancy?

Re: Antidepressant Medicine & Surprise Pregna

  • Studies show that some antidepressants are okay to be taken during pregnancy. They will not be deemed 'pregnancy safe' but it has been proven that the health risk is less than the risk of having a depressed pregnant mother.

On that note, please do not take any type of medical advice from strangers on the Internet when it comes to specific medications. These will be completely determined by your doctor for your own specific needs. Call them ASAP because the first trimester is a very important time for development and taking high risk medications can be an issue.

    Best of luck to you.

  • I am on anxiety medication at lowest dose I can manage. Risks are very low. Along with my doctor I decided it was better for me to stay on my medication. I am 8wks 5days. All good so far. First pregnancy and expecting twins!
  • I'm on Zoloft and will be for... ever? I might consider stopping for the last month depending on how I'm feeling to avoid any withdrawal symptoms in the babies but I'll start right back up again. This is the plan my doctor and I set together. Your psychiatrist and OB could certainly speak together to make sure everyone is on the same page!
  • I am on a low dose to prevent migraines and help me sleep. I called my Dr. yesterday ( I haven't been in to the office yet) and they told me to stop them immediately. :( I am only on 25 mg, too! Super frustrating. They told me to take a little less everyday this week and stop them by the end of the week.
