Who is on bedrest/modified bedrest?

my cervix shortened again (to 2.2) so my doc said to lie down as much as possible to avoid strict or even hospital bedrest. Who else is on bedrest or modified bedrest at this point?  Do we want to have a weekly check in?

also, if you have other children, how are you handling balancing not ignoring them and restricting your activity?

Re: Who is on bedrest/modified bedrest?

  • Just curious how you find out that your cervix is shortened?  Last time I had a few cervix checks because I had a previous LEEP surgery, so it was a concern.  Everything was fine, and I actually always measured about normal for whatever they want to see it at.  However, this time my OB hasn't said boo about it.

I'm surprised they didn't check again!  I didn't shorten at all with DS but did this time. I've been monitored every 3 weeks since about 20 w

and I was monitored also due to a LEEP
  • I am currently on modified bed rest right now due to Uterine Irritability. The last couple weeks I have had lots of contractions (they feel like period cramps and back ache, and nothing I do will stop them. They come and go randomly throughout the day, they happen more often if I am more active). I've been to L&D twice due to them, and they had to give me a shot to stop them. Good thing is my Fetal Fibronectin tests came back negative both times. Thank goodness so far they haven't caused any cervical change. But I am on Procardia daily to reduce them so they won't go into preterm labor. I now see my doctor weekly so she can check my cervix. I am 30w6d now. I am also unemployed due to being laid off this week, so I am in a weird limbo feeling right now. I've never not worked. But I am glad I can concentrate on resting and getting ready for baby. A weekly check in would be great!

So I asked today at my check up about cervix checks and my OB said at this point is moot, that they wouldn't check after 28 weeks anyway, so it's nothing I need to worry about at this point (32w)

  • Hi ladies! I'm on modified bed rest and have been for over a month already (due date 08/12). I have a history of preterm labor with my last baby and I have had my cervix monitored pretty much since the beginning with shortening during the last month and a half. I take Makena (which is progesterone injections) at home. And unfortunately, my fetal fibronectin test came back positive a month ago, so I have already received two Betamethasone injections to help boost lung development. I also had a first time seizure three weeks ago with unknown cause. This is my third pregnancy and by far the most complicated. DH and I are thinking about having one more after this, but I don't know if I want to go through this all again. Are you girls planning on having more after this?

DH has offered to get a vasectomy after this one (#2 for us). I still don't feel like our family is complete--I always wanted 3 or 4 kids. But we're going to wait a while so it's less of a financial and emotional strain.

I'm not on bed rest this time around, but I am on activity restrictions, and my cervix is shortening (down to 2.1 on Monday). FX my cerclage keeps doing the job a bit longer!

@SkiChic626 I'm surprised they won't check you at all. My OB did regular checks until 32 weeks, and checked any time I had a concern (contractions, cerclage stitch tugging).
  • @skelly70 Yeah, I asked at my 32w appt last week and she said she wasn't worried about it - especially since last time my checks all showed my cervix to be above the average length they wanted to see (it was like 5 something at one point, which apparently is super thick???), and then I didn't end up giving birth vaginally.  And even if it was a concern that by 28w they don't check anymore because at that point if you're dilated at all it doesn't necessarily indicate anything.  I was 3cm dilated with DD around 36w and still needed to be induced and ended up with a c-section, so I guess it really doesn't mean all that much once you're as far along as we are.  I also know someone IRL who was 1-2cm in her late 20-something weeks and also needed to be induced.  My OB works directly with my RE, and they work with high risk women, and they also work with any women or wives on the Jets payroll  ....so I trust their judgement.  They were also highly recommended by a bunch of women on my town FB mom's board completely independent of my RE recommending them, so I'm not worried

How scary about the seizure!  I'm also on Makena weekly and now a nightly progesterone supplement as well.  I got the steroid shots last week to boost the lungs just in case.  I'll find out on Friday if my cervix has shortened lower than the 2.2 of last week.

I had DS at 36w 3d but my cervix was long and closed when my water broke with him.  It's so hard trying to not do too much with DS while not ignoring him.  Especially since DH is putting so much pressure on himself to keep me from doing "too much" so I also feel like he's going to burn out before this baby comes.  We are pretty sure this is our last child.  DH has said for years he only wanted 2.  I kind of want a third (though talk to me after I actually have to parent two kids! lol) but given the slight complications this time around I think I'm done.  If my body just doesn't want to keep kids in until they are full term then I'll be happy with having my two kids without testing to see how far I can carry a third.
