HG Mommas

Hey gals! Any former HG mommas? How is everyone doing? What is your game plan this go around?

I had HG with DD1, lost a ton of weight, admitted 3x because I was spilling ketones, and was 1 step away from a Zofran pump at home! With DD2 I started Zofran right out of the gate and it was much better! (DD1 there was a few weeks where I couldn't swallow my spit because it would make me vomit, and I would vomit every 30 min by the effing clock, DD2 only about 5 times a day at its worse). I am really worried about it, its honestly hanging over my head and I am so scared. I can't deal with HG as bad as it was with dd1. My best friend remarked that I didn't seem very excited about my BFP- I am! But just waiting for this balloon to pop. We are moving in a week and a half and I am PRAYING it holds off until we are settled. I just got back from the grocery store on my lunch and stocked up on snacks to keep my belly comfortable. I got yogurt and nuts and crackers. Also kefir for probiotics and kombucha (I drink about 30 oz/week and will cut back to 20 or so). Got my unisom and B6 as well as Magnesium and going to get Magnesium oil this weekend (apparently Magnesium deficiency is a new theory circulating). I feel I've done everything I can, like its the zombie apocalypse or something.. Hopefully some of it helps.

And for funsies:

I am a former HG mama!  My older two children are 7 and 9, so my pregnancies with them were 8 and 10 years ago, but I remember it like it was yesterday.

So far, so good for me!  That being said, I am SO ANXIOUS about this.  The thought of when it's going to hit consumes me sometimes.  I pray it's not during a meeting, or something.  I just dread it, and I know it's coming.  I am envious of all the women who LOVE being pregnant, and we almost didn't move forward with having another child (we did IVF) because I am just so damn worried about how consuming MS is.

I don't have a game plan, yet, but am going to consider the Zofran pump this time.  My job now (which I didn't have with my first two pregnancies) doesn't exactly allow me to spend my days with my face in the toilet! ;-)  Last two pregnancies, I tried all the meds- oral, vaginal suppositories, anal suppositories, injections... I did not give the pump a try, and it wasn't even available during my first pregnancy.

I'm trying to remember the foods I used to eat when I was pregnant that were the easiest to throw up (that's always how I decided what to eat, based on how easily it came up!).

    How are you feeling, @peachesnbean?

  • @MagicMikki - really not bad so far. Only 4&3 so while I'm not expecting much yet, I'm surprise that I am feeling some already. I am trying to stay optimistic. I'm in much better shape then I was in college (got married in college and pregnant with both girls in college), but like you said- that dread is hanging over me! I've been nauseated the pass couple days if it's been a couple hours since I last ate which is honestly freaking me out because 4w3d! I work in a lab, pretty much alone, so while it's not exactly convenient to vomit at work- I do have a sink if need be. I actually had food poisoning in April and accidentally tested this out!

i hope yours stays at bay, too! It's a MF and so draining!

  • Glad to hear you're feeling ok so far, @peachesnbean!  I'm super early too, will be 4w tomorrow.  So I won't expect anything to really hit for another couple of weeks, yet.

How old are your older two?  I also got married when in college and had my first two when I was still in college.  Was easy enough to make it through a class at that time!  And with my youngest, I was a SAHM and only worked very part time.  My ex-H and I have since split, and I am now re-married, but I have warned my husband just how awful the MS is!

  • @MagicMikki - my girls will be 5 and 3 in August :) with my second I only took 6 credits and in fall semester so the ms didn't affect too much but I also worked PT at a portrait studio which was very difficult, it's actually a pretty active job! Feeling nauseated this morning. Not even 5 weeks, hopefully it's in my head. :(

  • My morning sickness hasn't ever been anywhere near as severe as HG so I hope you don't mind if I pop in.  In addition to a magnesium deficiency, another thing I've seen referenced recently as appearing to be linked to HG is the bacteria H. pylori (in your digestive tract).  I haven't done enough research to be able to speak very much about it, but I've read enough that I spent a good bit of time picking out a probiotic to add to my magnesium oil routine to try to help combat it (in case it plays a part in my morning sickness).

I've also read a few reviews about the kits available from the company Pink Stork and the ideas behind it seem promising, but it looks a bit expensive to me (hence finding a probiotic rather than ordering theirs).

Hoping that you all get through this pregnancy without HG this time!

I'm going to bump this thread because I think I will be in the same boat! Has it hit for you guys yet? Have the probiotics or magnesium helped?  @silvercamaro77 @peachesnbean

  • Chiming in while I wasn't diagnosed with hg my first I did have terrible morning sickness. I pulled about every hour until the evening when I would sleep just to get away from it all. This time around I get nausea but no throwing up yet at 8 weeks so I'm praying it stays this "easy". Praying for all you ladies who have already started the great suffering. At least it ends in a beautiful baby

Ahhh that's great news! I also slept to get away from it but I won't be able to get away with that this time. I hope it stays easy for you, and that the saw happens to me!

  • It might still be too early to tell for me, but compared to my last 2 pregnancies, I'm not throwing up as much- only 1-2 times per day, but I still have the all day nausea and the difficulty eating/drinking that comes with it.  With my first 2 I threw up multiple times per day, so it seems that the magnesium and probiotics help some.

I did decide to try the samples of Diclegis my MW gave me.  The first day I still threw in the morning, but I didn't feel sick until close to 5PM and I could actually think about food.  I was exhausted all day though, like it was a struggle to stay awake while driving to work exhausted.  Today is my second day of it and I did not get sick this morning and while my stomach feels a little uneasy it is worlds better than it was.  I also don't feel as exhausted today.

  • Hmm I've never heard of Diclegis but you will have to let me know after a week how it's working! I ordered a small kit from Pink Stork (the probiotic, magnesium spray, and one other thing) so that maybe I can try and get ahead of it. But I know last time when the MS hit, I was sick every 15 minutes!! So I might need to get some Zofran just to have on hand already. Or maybe try Diclegis!

  • @starfish113 I ended up ordering the cocolaurin and the tea from Pink stork because I couldn't find substitutes anywhere else.  The tea is okay.  I think it smells really good, but I don't just love peach, and I haven't noticed that it does anything for making me feel better.  The cocolaurin is hard to judge because I didn't start taking it until a week ago and it can take weeks/months to kill the H. pylori, but I figure it can't hurt.

  • @silvercamaro77 Yes the cocolaurin was the third thing in the pack! I didn't know it takes a while to kill the H. pylori. So thanks for letting me know because I will start it when it comes tomorrow!
