Baby Registries

So, this is my second rodeo. I don't plan on having another baby shower (the first one was a shitshow, but that's another story), but I'm planning on making registries for the freebies and discount. I thought maybe we could make a list of places to register, what the perks are, and when they're available. For example, I bumped my due date up by 2 months towards the end last time, since they don't give you your completion discounts until like a month before the baby is due. I wanted everything finalized before then, so I cheated my due date.

Last time, I registered at Target and Amazon. Here's what I know/remember. It may have changed, so if you know otherwise, let me know, and I'll add to this list/change things.

Target: Physical coupon sent to you, activates after due date. Good for 10% off all remaining items either in-store or online, you can use it both online and offline as long as it’s the same day. (Some people report that the 10% coupon works on all items in that one purchase at Target, but I can’t confirm.) If I recall, you also got a gift bag if you went in-store to register.

Amazon: You become eligible 30 days prior to stated arrival date, receiving 10% off a one-time order up to $5,000 worth of good from remaining items on registry. If you are an Amazon Mom member with Prime, you’ll get a 15% off completion discount instead. Applies only to items sold by Amazon.com, and only items that are deemed baby-related by Amazon are allowed. It's important to note that my Prime account is under my husband's name, so I didn't get the 15% off, and I was pissed about that.

Re: Baby Registries

  • This is also my second but I plan on registering for a few items we need to replenish.  Also, for the completion coupon.

We registered at Target and BabiesRUs with DS but I'm not sure on BRU policies.

  • With DD, we registered with BRU. They give you a 20% completion coupon closer to your EDD. We also opened up a CC with them and got an extra 15% off. We will make another registry but won't share it - just for the perks.
  • The completion coupons are awesome!  We did BRU, Pottery Barn, and Amazon.  Since we have a Prime membership, most of our items came from Amazon - I feel like we single-handedly keep our UPS guy employed lol!  For the nursery furniture we used Restoration Hardware - I don't know if they have a completion program - but they now have a membership type club deal that you have to pay into and get 25% off all purchases - this is worth it if getting big items there.  I used Etsy for all the personalized stuff, details, and artwork etc. - I don't think there is a way to register with them but I haven't looked.

Now that this will be our second time around and I will have 2 under 2 (if things work out) - the list will be MUCH smaller.  I will register only for things that we need two of - just haven't figured out what that is yet!

Also, for first time moms - I found Lucie's List very helpful in researching and compiling said list and registry.

Obviously I won't be registering but I would like completion coupons for stuff I want. (Of course not at Baby's r us, more like the Bay-even for baby registries I see people put in personal and non baby items-I have always found that odd)

You can add Etsy items to your Amazon list! They won't count for the completion discount, but you CAN add them to a list somewhere. I think you can register with Etsy for weddings, but not babies (at least, that's how it was in 2014.

Yes! And things don't have to be on there for any length of time, so you can throw them on there and check out (online).
