Napping Often

Hi everyone. This will be my first child, I'm 31 and my entire adult life I was under the impression I couldn't conceive. So this is my miracle baby! What I want to know is anyone else tired often. I'm napping seriously everyday already. The tiredness hits me so when I can I nap. But it's everyday.

  • Yes, I am also exhausted and napping all the time since I don't have other kids to tend to yet.  Come join our symptoms thread!  You'll find lots of commiseration there.
  • Nap as much as you need to.

When I was pregnant with DS, I was so tired and took naps almost everyday.  Now that he's running around and I'm working full-time, I never really have a chance to do it.

I shall live vicariously through you.

  • I nap when I can - but I find that I'm often getting a bit more awake by the time that I have the opportunity to nap. I felt like this with my first pregnancy but assumed it was end of semester stress, I think it is still a bit stress related for me now, but I recognize that it is more than that because it hits on weekends too...

  • Take all of the naps for those who can't nap. I am exhausted, but between working full time and taking care of my toddler I am unable to nap this time around.

When I was pregnant with my first I remember wondering how mom-to-bes survived if they already had a kid and couldn't nap....the answer is you just do.
Pretty much this exactly. My first pregnancy I napped whenever I could. Just embrace and enjoy it.
  • I usually nap at least once per day (my DD still takes two) it's really important to rest even if you don't necessarily fall asleep.
  • I nap a lot, I also go to bed before my fiancée and my daughter. Luckily she's the best and puts our daughter to bed and let's me get to sleep. I feel for you all who have younger kids. My daughter is 7 but I know I wouldn't be napping if she was 2 or a toddler of any age lol.
  • I remember first tri with my DD I was teaching and I would even nap during my prep period because I was so tired! It will pass, but just nap when you can now

  • My house is a gigantic mess, but I nap when my toddler does and go to sleep shortly after his 7pm bedtime

  • I almost wrote something snarky, but reeled it in because I'm SO JEALOUS!!
I slept so much with DD, but now she doesn't nap at all.
    Enjoy your naps, FTM.
I shall just sit here eating my crackers ;-)
  • I literally just woke up from a nap, and i'd only been awake for 3 hours. Haha

@angeltennis3 Thank you! We appreciate the proxy napping.
I can't nap at all during the day, but I have a fairly long train commute most days of the week, and I've figured out where the optimal napping seats are. Oh, and I nap in the chair whenever I have an appointment.

  • I save half of my daily dose of caffeine for 3pm. That's enough to get me until 8pm, and I sort of doze until I haul myself to bed at 9:30.

I also decided that between my rotator cuff injury, the fatigue and the hemorrhagic cyst, I was willing to pay someone to clean my house. They come this afternoon.

My DD is trying to give up naps currently. I'm like:

Mine will literally SCREAM if I mention nap.
    It sucks.
Mum seriously considering setting up the guest bed so I can put the tv on a nap while she watches .
    For shame
  • Naps are pretty much involuntary at this point for me. Zzzzz...

Sometimes I let DD play iPad while I nap next to her. Lol!
  • First time around, I would take 1-2 naps under my desk at work, and one after work.  I was exhausted.  I hate naps, am a night owl, and need very little sleep.  The hormones forced me to nap.  I had no choice in the matter.
  • I took a nap the day I got my BFP, and I've taken a couple of weekend naps, but I never seem to find time on the weekdays.  But my last teacher work day of the year is tomorrow, and I plan to spend all day Thursday napping.

  • I want to nap all the time! When I was pg with my DD I could nap whenever, now not so much. I did steal a 15 minute nap at work today during a break though. It was heaven!

  • I am "can't keep my eyes open must nap" mid to late afternoon, and then "omg I can't get comfortable and sleep" all night long. Which then doesn't help with my wanting to nap the next day...

I'm gonna try a small cup of coffee this afternoon to see if that helps.

Seriously. Those of you going from 1 to 2 kids - take this as advice. DO THIS. Get started now and show your kiddo how to sit quietly in bed with you either watching netflix or on a mobile device so you can get some sleep. This will SAVE your sanity!

  • ^ going to start ASAP.
  • I had it with my first pregnancy, and I have it this time around too.  I can sit down on the sofa and just fall asleep in that position.  This time around my husband is prepared for it.  With my son, he apparently would freak out, and he would debate whether to wake me (wrong!).

Perfectly normal.  You and your baby need it.  You'll feel less tired in a few weeks.  Everyone is different, but with my son, I lost the falling asleep all the time need early in the second trimester.  I didn't get real tired like that again until roughly 36 weeks.

Hehe. That's one advantage of #1 being 12. I'm exhausted and pukey. "Please empty the dishwasher before you walk yourself to class. If I feel better, I'll come pick you up."
