Subchrionic hemorrhage??

So I had my first ultrasound last night and the Dr said baby is fine, but I have a subchorionic hemorrhage....it's small, 1cm but he's ordering an ultrasound every week to see what happens. No lifting,  no sex, no nothing just work and rest as much as posisble.  How freaked out should I be??

Re: Subchrionic hemorrhage??

  • They're fairly common from everything I've ever read. As long as your doctor is staying on top of it I wouldn't be too freaked!

  • I was just diagnosed with that as well. Along with partial placental abruption. Well, have to keep each other posted. This was at the er, haven't gone to my regular ob yet.
  • Hi I was diagnosed with the exact same thing and same size at 8 weeks. However my doctor didn't give me any restrictions. Which is now kinda making me a little worried?! I even specifically asked about having sex and more ultrasounds.
  • I had that with my first pregnancy. It was explained to me as very similar to a bruise. Within a few weeks it dissolved and went away. I wouldn't be concerned, it's extremely common.

I had fairly large one at 5 weeks 6 days.  Went to the ER because I was bleeding - it was scary!  FTM, and had no idea a subchoronic hemmorhage was even a thing. I was put on pelvic rest, no lifting, no exercise. At my 10 week ultrasound, my doctor couldn't find the hematoma and considered it resolved. I was told that most of them resolve themselves. Good luck!

I had a large SCH diagnosed at 5.5 weeks after having bleeding and cramping. It was monitored on weekly to bi-weekly ultrasounds until it had fully resolved around 13 weeks. I'm now just over 20 weeks with twin boys!

An SCH that does not reabsorb and that continues to grow can cause a separation of the placenta from the uterine wall so they are usually monitored to ensure they are shrinking or at least remaining stable. Bed rest has been shown to not make a huge difference in the outcome but is still pretty commonly prescribed.

  • I had one with my successful pregnancy - as long as it's shrinking in size and not growing much larger it's usually ok.  I bled like a period until about 13 weeks which wasn't fun anxiety wise but it finally shrunk and the bleeding stopped.

I was put on pelvic rest as well as a precaution. Try to not stress they are pretty Common
  • Thanks everyone....still freaking out but trying to stay positive.   This is my 3rd pregnancy.. lost the first at 7 weeks and the second at 5 1/2 months so my optimism is not coming easy.
  • Same here, but wasn't given any restrictions. I had what I thought was a period pretty early on which is why I didn't find out I was pregnant until I was 8 weeks. My Dr only asked if I have bled since then and I haven't.
