Progesterone Suppositories during TWW

Hi ladies! So this is my second cycle using progesterone suppositories during my luteral phase. The first one I kept waiting for all the pregnancy symptoms to arrive that I read about that I could have (I already have a ton, but was expecting more). This cycle, I have super sensetive bbs, fatigue, frequent urination, mood swings like crazy, and cramping on my left side. Now, I have gotten all these before (except the frequent urination and maybe fatigue). But I just think it is the suppositories doing all this.

So what has been your experience on the suppositories? How did you know it wasn't your month even with all the signs.

Re: Progesterone Suppositories during TWW

  • I started those for the first time and all I've noticed so far is fatigue and cramping. No fun.

  • Unfortunately we can never know the outcome before the 2 weeks are up :(  Hang in there, I know the TWW is so brutal.  There is no rhyme or reason to symptoms during the TWW.  Sometimes ladies get all the symptoms and a BFN and then no symptoms at all and then BFP.  And sometimes vice versa.  I always try to dive head first into some kind of hobby to help myself refrain from symptom spotting.  Good luck!

I definitely had some of those symptoms with the suppositories- esp sore bbs, cramping, fatigue. Got AF, so I know it was from that. FX to you.
    ***TW***
    DH & I both 34.
    8/16: IVF, antagonist protocol

    2/20: FET = BFN :(
    4/20: Surprise COVID BFP

  • I've done the suppositories for 3 months and each month has been different. One month I was an emotional wreck and felt really crappy, one I had sore bbs, another I felt pretty good, just bloated. They do make me tired, though. So symptoms can even vary month to month. Just keep in mind that even if you are going to get a BFP, there is no way the pregnancy hormones are causing symptoms that soon. The TWW is the worst!
    Me: 33, PCOS with anovulation
    DH: 36, No known issues
    TTC since 11/2014
    1000mg Metformin daily

    Oct-Dec 2015: Letrozole 5mg, Ovidrel, TI = BFN x 2
    Feb-May 2016: Letrozole 5mg, Ovidrel, TI, Prometrium = BFN x 3
August 2016: Clomid 100mg no response, Letrozole 5mg, Ovidrel, TI, Prometrium = BFN

  • This is my 5th IUI and TWW and all of the above you described since the suppositories mimic pregnancy unfortunately many women have those side effects no fun!! And same as above if you are preggers sysmptoms wouldnt be this intense during the TWW i wouldn't symptom spot so much i know its hard not to believe me!
    Me 28 DH 33 | DX: DOR | HSG: Normal | IUI#1: (Clomid/HCG/Progesterone) BFN | IUI#2: (Clomid/HCG/Progesterone) BFN | IUI#3: (Clomid/HCG/Progesterone) BFN | IUI#4: (Menopur/HCG/Progesterone) BFN | IUI#5: (Menopur/Gonal-F/HCG/Progesterone) BETA 7/2
  • So I go in tomorrow for my pregnancy test and this progesterone has done a number on me. My temps are all up pretty high, my bbs hurt so bad, and I am peeing constantly. Oh how I wish that I could take these has signs. It seriously sucks, feeling like your body is tricking you.
  • I agree with everyone this will be my 6th month on progesterone suppositories during tww. I hate them because of the sneaky side effects. Each time is a twinge different,  enough for me to compare my chart.  But only BFP so far, so I know it's possible to have a sooo many symptoms mimicking preg. GL and hang in there @Ttcnumber2withhypo

  • @Ttcnumber2withhypo
Did you get the results yet?  FX

  • Yes, the progesterone causes all the symptoms. Ignore them, think of something else. Maybe not politics, though, just something distracting. Good luck!
Me- 39 (turning 40 in April), TTC for the first time ever (since Jan 2015), low ovarian reserve
Married 3/14/14 to my wonderful wife, but her sperm count is rather low
TTC with frozen donor sperm and science

    7 IUIs, 7 BFNs.
2 IVF attempts, both cancelled and converted to IUI, both BFNs.
Decided that my tired old ovaries are ready to retire.
Next step- reciprocal IVF, using my wife's eggs, my uterus!
fresh 5 day transfer (2 embryos) 4/17/17- BFP!
Identical twins "due" 1/2/17 (but anticipated arrival sometime December)

  • Sorry I am just responding now! Turns out my DH had appendicitis! We were in the ER early Friday morning and just got home tonight. I told him, no more hospital trips until we are delivering #2!

No results yet! I can't go in until Monday. I did take a hpt and it was negative. I don't "feel" very pregnant. I still have sore bbs, going to the bathroom often and cramping. But it feels almost like my body is ready to be over with this cycle but the progesterone won't let it, if that makes sense. Monday will be cd 36 and 17 dpo. My cycles are never this long and I think my body hates me. Every time I cramp, I expect to go to the bathroom and see blood but it is never there.

We will see what they say Monday but I don't think this is our month.
  • I didn't have any noticeable reactions to the progesterone during my last FET cycle, but yesterday (1dpt) I wanted to die. I napped for 3.5 hrs and had a headache/felt like barfing. Maybe I just needed some rest? Lovely
  • @Ttcnumber2withhypo Your poor DH! How is he today? Better, I hope. Thinking of you today. I hope you get great news!
  • I know I already commented, but just to add-- now that I'm 10dpo/dpiui, and have been on progesterone for a week, it is a major mind trip!

I know that it's very unlikely that I'm pregnant, and I won't test until Friday, but I woke up with major nausea this morning.  It would have been nice to have some ginger ale-- I might have to get some if it will help me through this week.

@Ttcnumber2withhypo, I hope your DH feels better quickly!

  • I know this is a late response, but I can't resist an opportunity to bitch about this. The progesterone is crazy-making. I'm on it 3 times a day--nothing like sneaking out of meetings to creep into the handicapped stall and do my business at 3 pm every day. Boobs are big and tender, I would like a nap ALWAYS, and a fun new symptom seems to be low-back pain. Who knows if any of it means anything? Not me, that's for sure.
    Me: 30, mild DOR
    Him: 31, totes fine.
    IUI #1: 5 follicles, cycle cancelled :-/
IUI #2: 1 follicle, BFP, chemical
    IVF #1: 12 follicles, 9 eggs, 1 fresh 5dt and 4 on ice. BFP, beta #1: 326, beta #2: 841

  • @UnicornsPlease WOW 3x a day would be horrible! I had the worst lower back pain, like i wondered if i hurt myself and all i wanted to do was lay on a heating pad. Also, so tired. Hopefully you will be on it for a long time, fx.
Me & DH - 41, DH has a cyst blocking his tubes, I'm just old.
    IVF #1 scheduled May 2016 - 375/525 follistim, 75 menopur - cancelled cycle Day 6
    IVF #2 scheduled July 2016 - new protocol, switcharoo...IUI June 2016 - BFN
IVF#3 scheduled August 2016 - estrogen & testosterone primed for 3 wks - ganirelix 7 days leading up to stim - 500 follistim, 75 menopur, 150 clomid , no follicle growth on day 6, stopped injectibles. Scanned day 9 just to check, some growth, 3 days 200 mg clomid, day 12 more growth, 100 follistim, 75 menopur, start ganirelix on day 13, ER = 0 eggs, ovulated to soon ( :( )
IVF#4 scheduled Sept 2016 - Microdose Flare protocol, cancelled stim day 6 converted to IUI (one dominant follicle)  :(  IUI cancelled ovulated too soon again. Taking a mental health break.
IVF#5 December 2016 - New protocol, same results. My adventure is over.

I had a FET in May and took Endometrin 3 x a day. I started a week or so before the transfer. I do not remember having specific symptoms during the first couple weeks of the medication. At about 5 or 6 days past the transfer I started getting symptoms. I had a lot cramping and I started looking up the same question. I knew it could have been the progesterone, but the fact that I started feeling something after a certain point when I had been taking the medication for  2 or 3 weeks made me feel  hopeful.

The cramping continued, and about 5 days later, I tested positive. From what I read during that time, each person has a different experience in terms of having symptoms or not having symptoms. Good luck!
