During my LO's 9 month appointment, my pediatrian strongly suggested I start reducing the amoint I give at hermiddle of the night feedings. It worked great and LO is no longer waking at night to eat. However she is now waking super early. My question is, how do I handle that? Should I feed her, or just try and rock her back to sleep? I am not sure if this early morning is replacing the middle of the night feeding. LO is asleep between 630 and 7. She is waking at 4am now...
Ours was doing that we did a modified cio to let him know it's not time yet to get up. It helped us to get all their calories and oz amped up in the day so they'll sleep 10 to 12 at night. My guy sleeps from 8 to 630 7
I do a snooze button feed when DS2 wakes between 4 and 6 am (he doesn't go to bed until 8:30 pm). Here is the thing, by 4 am most babies are pretty rested and are ready to fight sleep for quite awhile. A lot of babies will respond to this by just choosing to start their day then rather than fall back asleep. I would personally rather just get up, feed LO and go back to sleep until 7:30 or so BUT I'm a SAHM and DS1 doesn't wake up until 7:30 or 8 am. I may feel differently if I had to be up for work at a specific time.
My LO also wakes around 4/4:30 (sttn) and on the very rare occasion 5am. This started at around 7.5m and he'll be 9m on the 30th. I've just been waking up with him for the day. I bring him down with me and nurse but he never ever falls back asleep. I also SAH so at first I figured I'd just deal but an extra hour would be so nice. Our issue is definitely bedtime--he goes to bed way too early. Most days 5:00 because I can't force him to stay awake any longer when he's been up since 4am and is a crap napper. It's a vicious circle and I have no idea what to do to adjust. Sorry I have no advice, just sharing our routine and following for input!
I started weaning off the motn feed a few weeks ago. LO was waking up and taking at least one 8oz bottle overnight, sometimes 2. Right now we are down to a single 4oz bottle which I'm going to reduce to 2oz in the next few days. So far it has no affected his sleep.
I would do a snooze button feed, even if it's not a full bottle to buy you some extra sleep and your lo may not be able to go 12+ hours without eating yet. We were doing a snooze button feed; I would actually set an alarm for 6 am for a while. Then I started letting her sleep and I would give her 3 oz if she woke up befor 7:30 to get her back to sleep. That lasted about a week and then she just started sleeping through it completely. Now if she wakes up, and doesn't put herself back to sleep she gets a pacifier and that does the trick.
