STM+ Really Fast Labor

I couldn't really think of another thread that this fits on, and I know we have a while to think about it, but I am starting to get really nervous. This is baby #3 for me and with baby #2 we hardly made it to the hospital in time, and not for a lack of trying. It was 3 hours from first contraction to baby in my arms, and assuming labors get quicker each time I am seriously nervous about getting someone to watch my kids and getting to the hospital in time which is a 45min-1hr drive for us.

Has anyone with multiple kids experienced where the labors of each child didn't get progressively quicker? I am planning to talk to my dr about it at my next appointment, but I just wanted to see if anyone had a similar experience.

Re: STM+ Really Fast Labor

  • My first was the usual 14ish hour labour, and my second was almost born in the car on the way to the hospital...so very fast.  My third however, took as long as my first!  The nurses said that by that point, your uterus is tired and often third babies take the longest.  I'm sure it's different for everyone, but I wouldn't assume that your next baby will come as quickly as number 2.  It also depends on how long it has been between babies.  I'm kind of nervous about number 4, but I'm hoping he doesn't take as long as #1 or #3!

  • With my first my contractions started at 8pm on a Friday night, went into the hospital about 6am, admitted around 7am and then gave birth just after 10am. With my second my water broke around 4am, went to the hospital around 5am and labored until I gave birth just after 7pm. So with my second I labored a lot longer at the hospital because my water broke, I went in pretty much right away. With my first I was worried about going in too early and being sent home (we're about 45min to a hour from the hospital too and both were during the winter which is usually crappy weather here in MI). My first felt like it went a lot quicker because I wasn't at the hospital for the 14 hours of labor, even though my second was about the same at 15 hours. I'm not necessarily worried I won't get to the hospital in time but I am curious as to where this labor/delivery will fall in comparison to my first 2. I have no advice for you but I'd probably be nervous too because you have no idea what's going to happen and when. Hopefully your dr can give you some good advice!
