Re: Wednesday Ticker Change

  • How many weeks? 30!

Size of baby (fruit/veggie/etc)? Baby is the size of a Platypus minus the tail.

What is next? (Appointments, milestones)? Appointment Friday with OB. Signing up for a breast feeding class and an infant CPR class.

    Rants/Raves/Symptoms? Back aches suck!

    Questions?

GTKY: What is your favorite thing about where you live? I love that we live in a small town. Everyone knows everyone, people are so friendly, we still have "carry-outs" at the grocery store that take your stuff to your car, there are kids all over the place for our kids to play with, etc...I live in the town I grew up in and I couldn't think of a better place to have my family and raise my children.

  • How many weeks? 31

    Size of baby (fruit/veggie/etc)? Asparagus

What is next? (Appointments, milestones)? I have my first check in the diabetes center tomorrow and then my next appointment isn't for another week and a half.

Rants/Raves/Symptoms? General discomfort has set in. Not fun.

    Questions?

GTKY: What is your favorite thing about where you live? I love living in the south because it still feels like things go slow. The world is always going so fast and things are constantly changing, I love living somewhere that time doesn't seem to move as fast.
  • How many weeks? 33

    Size of baby (fruit/veggie/etc)? Celery

What is next? (Appointments, milestones)? Had a check up yesterday, so nothing for another two weeks.

Rants/Raves/Symptoms? Started swelling because of all the humidity so I had to stop wearing my wedding ring. Thankfully, I have a silicone ring I wore for work so I still have something to put on.

Questions? What are some good items to have in your diaper bag?

GTKY: What is your favorite thing about where you live?
I love how rural it is, to me at least. I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, so the amount of farms around us and the opportunities for clubs like 4H and FFA make me excited to raise children here. We eventually want to own more land and it seems so much more possible out here.
  • How many weeks? 33

Size of baby (fruit/veggie/etc)? a ferret, celery, or 3 chocolate croissants

What is next? (Appointments, milestones)? It's a busy baby week! Had our baby care class last night, childbirth class tonight, next appointment + hospital tour on Friday and maternity photos on Sunday.

Rants/Raves/Symptoms? My lower left calf and ankle hurt when I walk. I thought for weeks I had pulled it or something but now with some numbness setting in and a few Google searches I'm realizing it's probably more sciatica/nerve related (especially since she is sitting on my right side). I feel great otherwise so I'm just trying to ignore it.

Questions? In our class last night they talked about how important/helpful it is for the newborn to sleep in the same room as you. What is everyone using for the baby to sleep in? Our room isn't big and I think that pack 'n play is going to be a pain to have in there.

GTKY: What is your favorite thing about where you live? I love our historic downtown on the river - charming and with such character. The Saturday farmer's market is the highlight of my week!
  • @WinnieLou82 we are using a rock n play. It's pretty small, but we also have the pack and play we used with DD as a back up in case he either doesn't sleep good in the RnP or we just don't like it. I got it from once upon a child for $20 so I plan on reselling it for the same price once we are done with it.
  • @WinnieLou82 We have a wooden bassinet that we are using. All of my cousin's used it for their kids and my grandparents bought it. If he ends up not liking it/doesn't work for us, we'll also be trying the rock 'n' play.
  • @WinnieLou82 we used a rock 'n' play for our dd and this time we have a bassinet.

@DressageDarling besides the obvious of diapers, wipes, extra clothes, etc...I found it extremely useful to keep gas drops and infant pain reliever in there. You never know when they are going to have a belly ache or something else that you would need these things for.
  • @DressageDarling Diaper bag necessities change based on the season and age of your baby, of course, but for a summer newborn I'd have diapers, wipes, a change of clothes, nursing cover, sunhat, pacifier, a few burp cloths, a plastic bag so you have somewhere to put dirty clothes in case of blowout, diaper rash ointment, and like @jamiesc58 said infant tylenol is a good idea. I have one zipper pocket of my diaper bag reserved for ME (wallet and other purse items) so I don't have to carry a separate purse.

    How many weeks? 31

    Size of baby (fruit/veggie/etc)? asparagus

What is next? (Appointments, milestones)? I had an appointment today - got my Rhogam and Tdap shots. Doctor says there's only a 20% that the "shadow" on baby's heart will be an issue, and if it is one, it's not life-threatening. The plan is for an echo after baby is born. Also, baby is currently breech so he has 5 weeks to flip before she will have me go in for a version attempt. Next appointment in two weeks.

Rants/Raves/Symptoms? Heartburn is kicking in much sooner than it did with DS so I have to be careful not to eat too much in the evening. Overall I feel pretty good though.

    Questions?

GTKY: What is your favorite thing about where you live? I live in the same town as @DressageDarling and I'd agree, it's a beautiful place to live. It also has that small-town feel but it's only 15 minutes from downtown Madison so we are still close to a lot of stuff. The school district has a great reputation so I'm happy we'll be raising our kids here.

  • @WinnieLou82 We got the Arm's Reach mini co-sleeper bassinet. We haven't set it up yet so I'm not sure how much room it takes up, but I believe it's narrower than a pack-n-play.

    How many weeks?
    33

    Size of baby (fruit/veggie/etc)?
    Pineapple

    What is next? (Appointments, milestones)?
    OB check up tomorrow

    Rants/Raves/Symptoms?
The foot swelling has started... I suspect cankles are not far behind.

    Questions?

GTKY: What is your favorite thing about where you live? Access to hiking trails, camping and other outdoorsy stuff while still having all the big city stuff (especially amazing restaurants).
  • @DressageDarling just echoing what PP said and also adding we have these scented bags that you can put dirty diapers in. You can get them at Walmart but I like the kind from dollar tree. I also have used them a few times for dirty clothes when there is a blowout. We also had one of those little kits that had all the baby care essentials like thermometer, nail clippers, ect. I always carry a few extra outfits, burp clothes we seemed to never have enough of, and bibs.
  • How many weeks? 33 weeks

Size of baby (fruit/veggie/etc)? Celery (although a stalk of celery seems a lot smaller than ~17.2 inches)

What is next? (Appointments, milestones)? Had my shower this past Sunday and we have a normal OB appt next week. Other than that, nothing.

Rants/Raves/Symptoms? SO much round ligament pain. And it hits at the most inopportune times... like walking through Target, which resulted in me having to sit down right in the middle of an aisle 'til it passed.

Questions? Is anyone else having insane round ligament pain? Like constantly?

GTKY: What is your favorite thing about where you live? I live in Atlanta (the actual city, not just nearby). I love everything about it. . . except the weather. I hate Georgia weather with a passion.
  • @DressageDarling - I'm having issue packing our diaper bags too. I've been following the misc. lists I've found, but I still feel like I'm majorly overpacking them.

@WinnieLou82 - We are using a rock-n-play infant sleeper in our room. We live in a super tiny house with much smaller than average bedrooms and a pack-n-play would definitely not fit. The RNP fits perfectly between my side of the bed and the wall and collapses easily when not in use.
  • @BritMC18 I wouldn't quite call it insane but I've definitely noticed more RLP over the past few days, especially when I'm working out. I think the belly is just getting so heavy its pulling and stretching a lot... and it sucks!
  • This baby will be sleeping in a RnP.

Maybe be another thing for diaper bag is throw away changing pad covers in case of messy poops.

    How many weeks? 32 weeks

    Size of baby (fruit/veggie/etc)? Squash

What is next? (Appointments, milestones)? Appt is next week

Rants/Raves/Symptoms? I think I wake up every time I want to turn over in bed.

    Questions?

GTKY: What is your favorite thing about where you live? I am actually hoping to move to a town just North above the city in which I live. Just to be out of the city and the traffic. But there are lots of good restaurants. But that's only good sans little kids.

    Size? Stalk of celery

What is next?  I have a postpartum class tomorrow morning - it's about how I should take care of my body after baby arrives, then a regular dr appointment tomorrow afternoon.  Plus, we have the hospital tour on Saturday morning.

Symptoms?  My inner thighs are burning!! It feels like I did 10000000 sets on the thigh machine at the gym.

Questions?  Any suggestions for what to ask on the hospital tour is welcomed!!

@winnielou82 I will have a rock n play next to my side of the bed.  I actually got it at my shower and I put it together to realize I didn't register for the auto rock version and I was going to have to manually Rock the cradle .. I took that bad boy back ASAP and got the auto version which is sooooo much better in my opinion so be sure to double check that if you go the rnp route.

GTKY- I live in the heart of downtown Los Angeles and I never in a million years thought we would be living here with a baby on the way but, I have to say I love living in a big city. We have such a diverse selection of museums, free music in the squares and parks, tons of amazing pockets to play and explore with a little one.  It's so different than how we grew up and I am excited for our babies to grow up surrounded by so much diversity.  LA is unique because there are so many different neighborhoods within the city - everything from the beaches on the west side to the sky scrapers downtown to snowy mountains a short car trip away.

  • Thanks all for the in-room sleeping Rex's - we have an auto RNP but I was reading that the baby shouldn't consistently sleep in it so I guess that was incorrect. Glad that will work out!
