So my wonderful, loving, husband has decided that he has found a majestic unicorn in a pile of junk. He is seriously considering selling his 4-wheeler which I think is great because it frees up extra money every month that we could use for baby stuff of even put toward other small debt that I am trying to pay off. But No, he wanted to buy an old Mustang to restore... (bashing head against desk). I am tirelessly trying to explain to him that this is a terrible idea because we move around every 3-4 years and who knows if he will be able to take it to our next duty station not to mention the $$ that he will be spending on parts and tools for this stupid thing. His rebuttal is this is a once in a life time find and that its something he has always wanted to do... blah, blah, blah. This is seriously going to start WWIII.. Let's have some common sense shall we!
I had found what I thought was an amazing deal on a used newborn/0-3 month lot of clothes on my local mom's shop and swap on FB. Made arrangements for the lady to leave them outside for me as she was going to be out. Picked them up and should have checked them out right away, but didn't. When I got home to throw them all in the wash, all but two of the items were obviously not as advertised; she had said they were from her youngest daughter who was now 8 months old, so they were fairly new, but almost everything was so musty and damp that mold had actually grown on them, and there was no way these clothes were less than a year old just from the styles of clothes. I messaged her right away and she claimed it must have happened because they were outside, so it was my fault since I couldn't come at a time when she was home. Mind you, they were under a covered porch and it wasn't even raining. Luckily she wasn't home so I went back to the house and put the clothes back and took my money back. She sent me angry text messages saying I'd stolen the money and I'm like um no, I took the clothes back and got my money back. I just don't understand what motivates people to lie about the conditions, like the buyer's not going to notice? She was selling them as EUC, barely used. Definitely not what I received. Two trips of wasted gas, at least I got my money back. Then to top it off she complained to the group admin's that I had left her hanging, so I sent them a picture of the clothes when I got them and a copy of her ad, and she ended up getting removed. Justice.
Love it for the justice, glad you got your $$ back! I've been burned on Craigslist, I make sure to look things over now... One lady got upset that I didn't want her stroller that was covered in mold/mildew for my then 3 month old. Gross. I was upset I drove 30 minutes to look at it and it was in such poor condition!
My husband had a golf tournament this morning, followed by a silent auction. He texted me "Only $475 for a stand-up paddleboard, it only holds up to 200 pounds" .. he weighs just over 200, so this would only be really usable by me.
We have discussed already that 1. We are about to have 2 small children, SUPing is not a sport to be done with tiny kids, so when would we have the time? and 2. We don't live on water!
I hate having to be the one to say "No, we don't need that" because he already thinks I'm a penny pincher, but we really spend money quite a bit on toys and splurges so I don't think I'm that bad.. but I think he's a TW for putting me constantly in the position to say no by bringing up really unnecessary purchases!
@AnnaS930 I always have to say no to my guy! He always wants to take money out of our savings with the excuse "I'll just put the money back in when I get paid" um. No you won't bc you never do unless I take the money from your account myself
The dog is the biggest TW today. My husband is away on business this week and I left her when I went to work today. My mom went to pick her up only four hours later, and the dog had taken a crap all over the living room carpet. She has only pooped in the house one time as a puppy and that was two years ago. She didn't seem sick or anything, so I'm thinking she did it deliberately.
I have another fun one about my friend that you guys love that thinks I'm selfish for saying I probably wouldn't be able to be in her wedding that isn't booked, nor is she engaged, that she's planning for the week after I'm due...
she was complaining that H and I don't have regular date nights and said that when she has kids, it's really important to her that they have weekly date nights. This is great for some people, really not very realistic for the majority of people in the world but I get that people do it and it works for them blah blah blah. But then my other friend said that he took his wife to dinner the other night and they considered that their date night. And she said, "that's not a date? You went to dinner? A date is planned out in advance and has to be more than dinner. At least put some effort in." And she expects this weekly. When she has kids. And expects to be a SAHM because she doesn't want to work. Not because she wants to be with her kids. And her guy makes about $75k a year, which is great for one person but will definitely take some stretching to work for two adults and their expected 4 children. Doable, but I don't think she realizes just how tight that will be.
She he has such an unrealistic view of what married life is like, and what it should be like. She is setting her boyfriend up for failure.
@PoodleDoodleOoo one would think, but he's never had a girlfriend before her and I honestly think he's clueless as to what is a normal expectation in a relationship.
@MrsVoorhees what is a date? I can't wait until she has kids and realizes there is no time to do anything for yourself and dinner is most definitely a date and staying out until 1030 is an accomplishment; not to mention super late!!
@yellowrose314 so happy you got your money back!! I don't understand, some people on CL/FB swap sites are just delusional.
@MrsVoorhees she's my favorite person to hear about because I feel like she's a crazy reality show character or something. Like one of the Real Housewives of New Jersey or something. Girl is completely nuts-- I can't wait til reality smacks her in the face about all of this!
@CRich15 My husband is also military and has crazy ideas about fixing up junker cars (the really cheap government auction vehicles... so not insane to purchase or even fix, but impossible to transport cheaply when we need to move so often and where are we going to store these things exactly and etc etc.) He didn't have a savings account before a few months ago and has lived paycheck to paycheck since he got his very first job as a teenager. I said he can spend money on stupid shit when he has enough in that account to support us for 6 months if we both lose our jobs, lol.
I am the frugal one. I will gladly own up to being a penny pincher. I've told him I would be happy to handle his accounts if he ever wants me to, but I feel like that might be too controlling, so I don't push for it. I trust him, I don't think he'd ever do anything too stupid financially, but anytime he brings up the car ideas (did I mention he doesn't know anything about car repair to begin with??) I tell him he'd better wait until we have somewhere a little more permanent to stay.
