Dizzy/lightheaded after exercise?

I usually bike to work. I don't work too hard, because who wants to get to work all sweaty?

Today I was about 6 miles into my 7 mile ride when I stopped at a traffic light and was suddenly dizzy. I had a few seconds of tunnel vision, then was fine again. I'd guess it's transient low blood pressure - like when you stand up too fast.

Would you call it a one-off fluke and take it a little easier, or call the OB that I haven't even seen yet this pregnancy?

Re: Dizzy/lightheaded after exercise?

  • I'm noticing that I get dizzy when my heart rate goes way up, and I'm taking it as a sign to slow down a bit.

I have always gotten dizzy easily, and physical activity in heat can make it worse. Since being pregnant, I've had a couple of tunnel vision episodes like you're describing, and I wasn't even doing anything as badass as biking to work! I agree with @runnermom04 , always have water on hand if you can. You probably don't need to call the OB, but definitely mention it at your appointment.

  • It's so weird. The ride to work is all flat. The 3/4 of a mile that I'm trying to flow with traffic wasn't what got me. It was the leisurely straight-away.

No rapid heart beat, no sweat - it's in the 60's so I wasn't even hot.

I do always carry water, and I thought I drank enough! I'll just take it easier on the way home and see how I feel.

  • This happened a few times to me last pregnancy. I would get light-headed when standing up (which isn't anything too weird--that happens to me sometimes), but a few times, I blacked out--couldn't see (but didn't pass out). I think 2 or 3 times during the entire pregnancy. It was scary, but I just waited it out, drank some water, and sat down, and it went away.
