  Well I guess this solves the question of whether people will pronounce it properly. Apparently a lot of variation.

  I think this mighhhttt be different depending on where people have lived.  Because I'm so close to the Mexican border and lots of my students have Spanish/Mexican names I usually say "e" like "a" when I see a name like this.

  E - lay - na. If I am not mistaken it's a traditional Hispanic name and that's how they pronounce it.

  I would say it like uh-lay-nuh. If that's the pronunciation you are looking for, maybe go with Alaina.

  Just FYI, I think there is a new series (a spin off from Sofia the First) on Disney Junior coming soon and the main princess is named Elena. However they pronounce it will probably become main way people with kids will pronounce it.
