Heartburn

I'm 18 weeks and having some pretty bad heartburn. Whenever I've heard of moms getting it, I always thought it was further along. Anyone else experiencing it this early as  well? Can't figure out triggers other than eating too close to bedtime. When it comes on if I wake up in the middle of the night it's really bad and lasts throughout the next day as well.   :/

Re: Heartburn

  • I was a fire breathing dragon last night. Broke open the tums.

  • I'm 15w5d and I've literally had heartburn since I found out I was pregnant. Makes me pretty miserable sometimes. Tums usually help.
  • Try eating a banana. That usually works for me if it's mild heartburn.
  • I just got it for the first time yesterday (17.2). Not fun. I need to go pick up some tums today to prepare for next time.
  • Thanks, guys! So helpful knowing I'm not the only one! Tums hasn't been helping so I got some zantac and that will do the trick sometimes.
  • My OB told me it was because the relaxin can also relax the muscles at the tip of the stomach, making it easier for the acid reflux and heartburn to happen. Lying down too soon after eating will definitely make it worse. They gave me the OK to take Zantac. Definitely make your Dr aware as they may have a different idea on how to treat it.
  • Yep. I've gotten it for every pregnancy. I'm taking Prilosec because Zantac doesn't work for me. It's prescribed by my OB.

  • I've head heartburn on and off since right after I found out. We just make sure we have Tums. It doesn't really help much, but it's been better than nothing.

  • I've had a terrible sour stomach or stomach pains/heartburn almost since I found out I was pregnant this time.  Tums or Zantac haven't been helping.  My doctor told me to put a tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar in a glass of warm water and have it first thing in the morning before I eat.  I haven't been consistent with it though, so it's too soon to tell if it helps.
  • Also, I haven't had heartburn in two weeks and now it's back with a vengeance! I blame you @kulizzyb123!
  • I haven't had it with this pregnancy to bad yet but with my DS and DD#2 it started as soon as my ms started to get better and ended up turning into really bad acid reflex right before my third trimester and I just had to learn what triggered it or made it worse. I just always took it as a part of the pregnancy package...
  • Yess! I have acid reflux to begin with so my pregnancies have been really rough with heartburn. It doesn't help that I'm craving spicy food constantly lol. Pepcid chewable tablets (mint flavor) have been the only thing to help me.
  • My first pregnancy brought on some pretty wicked heartburn for the majority of the time. In hindsight, and after a few trial and error moments post partum, it appears the trigger was a matter of overeating than anything else. Either way though, TUMS did the trick.

This pregnancy, so far so good, but I'm also trying not to repeat some pretty bad eating decisions.

Hope it gets better (or more tolerable)!
