TTC After a Loss

TMI, but passing tissue after D&C?

Wondering if anyone else experienced passing leftover tissue following their D&C.  My surgery was almost 3 months ago and I'm now on my 2nd period.  Today I had some cramping and passed a quarter sized piece that I'm guessing is leftover placenta.  I bled for 2 weeks and it took 2 full months to get a period and get my hcg down following the D&C so maybe this was why?  Can my body please be normal now?!

  • I had a similar experience. My 2nd AF post d&c was the worst. I passed a lot of small clots. It's probably not placenta but your lining. Your d&c should of removed all of the fetal tissue. That AF for me was the heaviest and worst cramps to date. My last one (3rd post loss) was more normal.

  • My second AF post-d&c was also super heavy.  My d&c was on Feb. 1, hardly bled after.  Then I had retained material, took cytotec, still had retained material, but eventually got AF about 2.5 months after d&c (and it was not too heavy).  Then AF#2 was super heavy (as in, ultra tampon every hour for a while).  My RE did not seem concerned and was glad that whatever it was that was leftover had cleared itself out (seemed like it was maybe some retained material still--he said he had seen it on u/s earlier).  I hope this gets your body back to normal, I found that part really frustrating.  Sorry for your loss.

  • I'm sorry your AF is so heavy. Its not uncommon to pass clots that size apart from having MC/D&C during a particularly heavy AF. A lot of us have had particularly heavy AF's right after our losses. I don't know your specific medical situation but my basic knowledge and logic tell me it's probably nothing to worry about. You should always call your doctor if you soak through a pad or more per hour at any time, though. Fx your AF calms down soon.
  • I agree with the above posters. My first AF after a D&C wasn't so bad, the second, third, fourth, etc, were insanely heavy, to the point where I wish I didn't have to leave the house! The last two were actually much more manageable. It seems our bodies post loss can be so much of a mystery. I hope things normalize for you soon!

The first four periods following my D&C were super heavy, and I passed some big clots. The 5th period post-loss and this most recent one have been very tame in comparison. I actually worried at first that I wasn't ovulating (despite using OPKs that said otherwise). Then I reasoned it's because I'd had such heavy ones for a while and that "normal" AF's don't have a lot of thick lining to pass. Hope things settle down for you soon.
