Gagging, anyone?

Holy crap. Going from feeling a little queasy to full on gagging right when I hit 6 weeks.  I am gagging at just about everything... and I lack an appetite - nothing sounds good to me! Well, except a Big Mac and fries, pad thai, and honey walnut shrimp! I've had food sitting in a container in my fridge and I can't even look at it! My fiance has left it on the counter to clean it out but it's been sitting there for a couple of days now because he's lazy and probably apprehensive to do it.  The smell is just devastating and whatever food that is left in that container seems to have permeated throughout my entire apartment. It is awful.  Just tried brushing my teeth, too.... that was not fun. Gagging over the sink and I don't dare to use mouthwash.

Anyone else experiencing gagging and sensitive smells? Is this what Morning Sickness is like? Does it get worse and lead to actual vomiting?

Re: Gagging, anyone?

  • I sympathize! Both my prior pregnancies I had nausea with gagging (that fortunately never progressed to vomiting).  For me, gagging was triggered by an empty stomach, so was worse when I first woke up and if it had been awhile since my last meal or snack. Having some bland saltines always within reach and making sure I always had a little something in my stomach really helped me.  Hang in there!!!

@Bebe13lue Ugh that sounds awful! I've always been a gagger/dry heaver and there have been a couple of times in the last week where I was sure I was going to puke. I have always had an aversion to the taste and smell of cooked eggs, and now it's 100 fold. I actually had to walk out of a deli this morning because their eggwiches were overpowering. What's worked in the past to calm the reflex is smelling something I can handle, like mint or chocolate.

  • @Vastra I totally puked. That didn't take long! I've heard the peppermint and ginger pops work so I'll be going to the store. Definitely can't think of eating an egg sandwich. Weird because I love eggs! Food aversions suck.
  • @CAmama99 Definitely clutching on to a tube of saltines right now. Thank you! Feeling better already.
  • I'm beginning to gag/feel sick when brushing my teeth :( and this is just the beginning.
  • Somehow it's all the food we're "supposed" to be eating that makes me gag. Avocado could not seem more disgusting right now.
  • Went to the zoo Tuesday. An elephant poo'd and peed and I couldn't get away fast enough. I gagged till we were well out away from it. As I looked around I noticed I was the only one with this exaggerated reaction to the poo. Then husband gave a fart at home and I gagged. Teeth brushing got me now too. Hope I don't do it the whole time.

The taste of avocado does not agree with me either these days and I absolutely love it, usually.
  • @kswiger06 LOL! That's too funny!
  • With DD I had morning sickness from week 3 until she was born, as well as horrendous heartburn. But this time I only gag when my allergies kick up, or too strong of a smell. Ive thrown up 1x this time, it was from food...but of course DD ate the same thing and was just fine...go figure.

  • Today I used a somewhat gross public bathroom... I really don't like public restrooms. But anyway I went into the Stahl and was gagging/dry heaving from the stink. I had to lift my dress over nose to get me through it. Not fun

  • My work shares the back entrance with a restaurant next door and their dumpster and grease waste bin are right next to the door. The smell is so nasty, especially with the 100+ degree heat. I'm sure it's going to make me barf one of these days.
