1st Trimester

Alternative pain relief? Cramping, backaches, headaches.

Hey there.  So even though Tylenol appears to be an approved pain reliever, I'm really trying to break my habit of running to pop a pill to deal with my aches and pains.  I'm about 6W and having really bad cramping, back aches, occasional headaches.  These are not out of the norm of my usual PMS symptoms, but I'm so accustomed to popping a few Advil to deal with it.  I sought some relief from a heating pad last night until I realized that's not good either as I don't want to raise my core BT.  What's a girl to do!

Would love some suggestions on first tri "growing pains" relief - I'm just drinking herbal tea and took a brisk walk on my lunch hour, but neither are helping much.  I'd suck it up if I weren't teaching a Zumba class tonight ( :s ) Any suggestions or approved herbal remedies?  Same goes for sleeplessness.  TIA!! ;)

  • Epsom salt baths help a lot. Just make sure they're not too hot.

  • Lots of water and also essential oil blends. Try to find a local Young Living or Do Terra rep to talk to about it.
  • Also, a heating pad every once in a while will not raise your temp high enough to damage your growing baby
  • Heating pads aren't bad unless you're using it on high all the time. I swore by mine in the first trimester, and now again in the last of my third. If the pain is that intense that you feel the need to take a Tylenol (or any acetaminophen product), do so because you being uncomfortable puts unnecessary stress on your baby and your body.

I've completely overused my heating pad on high all day today, but I had an emergency...pretty sure I'm miscarrying today  :'( .  I'm at a point where I need to do anything to alleviate the pain.

  • Thinking about it and stressing yourself out isn't going to help the situation. Try a topical muscle cream/ gel. Use the heating pad. Use a yoga ball and do some stretches.

  • Consider cold.  All the changes in your body can produce inflammation. Cold will help control that.  I cannot recommend the cold wraps enough. https://kingbrand.com/Back-Ice-Packs-and-wraps.php?REF=34PV4.280
You should try not to always depend on heat.  It can raise your blood pressure.

  • Oh I just saw your most recent post.  I hope everything is ok.
  • My doc said tiger balm and icy hot are ok to use also.
