Uti - 10 Weeks

Hi!
I just got the call from my dr that my urine came back positive for a urinary tract infection. He has prescribed me amoxicillin 3x's a day for 5 days. Has anyone ever taken antibiotics before during their first trimester. I am incredibly nervous, I am sure he wouldnt prescribe it if it wasnt safe. Just need some thoughts to make myself feel better

It is very common. I had to do the same a few weeks ago, as did a good friend of mine. The benefits outweigh the risks. I wouldn't give it a second thought. Feel better!

Edited due to pregnancy brain :P

  • I took some at 3 weeks (before BFP, but I suspected this could be our month so I made sure that my GP wrote me a pregnancy safe Rx) for a kidney infection and another at 6 weeks for a UTI. Apparently I need to get my crap together and stop picking up infections buttttt your doctor won't ever prescribe an antibiotic that isn't safe for baby too. I didn't give it a second thought. I do plan on asking my doctor at my next appointment if I can take some cranberry tabs to try and prevent any more infections.
  • I've taken antibiotics during all three of my pregnancies now. I was nervous at first too, but your doc wouldn't prescribe something that would hurt the baby, unless it was your life at risk. Definitely start taking it ASAP so you don't end up with a kidney infection. Drink a TON of water from now on :) Helps keeps those kidneys and urinary tract clear. Hope you feel better soon!

  • Yes, please take care of your UTI. My sister had two miscarriage because of untreated UTI early in pregnancy so it took them a while to figure it out.
