Infertility

Another HSG question

Hi ladies, I've been MIA for the past month or so. It's been a difficult one for many reasons. Adjusting to the news that I will have 3 new nieces or nephews all due at Christmas time, for one. You know how that goes, happy on the one hand, so sad on the other.

Anyway, I need some HSG experiences here. I had my HSG a week ago Friday. The results were all good. I bled right after it but that went away quickly (like, within a couple hours) and some brown spotting/discharge remained. It was really only noticeable when I used the bathroom. As the week went on I noticed some pink and red, though. Then last Friday morning, I bled almost like I had my period, and that has continued through today. It's not constant, but I am passing large clots and the blood is bright/dark red.

On Friday, the doctor's office said as long as I don't have pain or a fever, it should be fine. They said they would do an ultrasound to rule anything out, but I was out of town this weekend and couldn't go in for one. I called again today to check in and I'm waiting for a call back. I feel fine otherwise. Has anyone else experienced this? It's almost like an early period! (I'm not regular but I'm only on CD 20 today, so the bleeding really picked up on CD 17.) I'm just worried about what this means for my lining, etc.

Re: Another HSG question

  • Hi @LizzieJ13! I didn't have any bleeding after my HSG so I can't give any advice, but I hope you were able to get the ultrasound done and that all is well!

I know what you mean about being happy and sad when finding out people close to you are expecting. I've recently found out two more of my friends are expecting, plus another good friend just had her baby. Happy for them, but part of me still aches inside. Good luck to you on your journey!

i didnt have your symptoms after my hsg, so I don't have any personal experience with it, but I would get it checked out further. Good luck
  • I had spotting but not any real bleeding. I hope they give you answers soon.

I had something similar. My HSG went well and i didnt have much pain and the spotting/light bleeding stopped in 2 hours or so. But then I started to bleed two days later . It was red, lighter than period bleeding but I definitely needed pad. It went on and off for two-three days. My doctor said it is normal as long as I do not have fever. They suspect from infection if you have fever and pain in addition to bleeding. Bleeding/spotting stopped completely afterwards and I did not ovulate that month (probably due to my PCOS though). I hope that everything is fine and the bleeding stops soon @LizzieJ13
  • Thanks everyone! When I was still bleeding on Monday the nurse suggested I come in for a check. The doctor did an ultrasound, an exam, and even sent me to the lab for a pregnancy test! (Saying that it was very unlikely to be positive, of course.) But without any pain or fever, she was confident nothing was wrong. It still seems strange to me, even though I'm used to weird bleeding from PCOS. Oh well!!

And yes, all those babies at Christmas time is ROUGH. Although I'm sure the anticipation/the initial announcements make me feel worse than I will in December. I think by then I'll have adjusted to the idea and be excited to meet our new family members.
