UO Thursday

Let's hear those unpopular opinions!!!

Re: UO Thursday

  • I hate that my friend decided to randomly become a vegan and is acting all pretentious about my husbands wool kilt. It's wedding season so he is wearing it all the time since he wears that instead of a suit. She keeps making snide comments about it. Not 6 weeks ago she was making bacon jam, shit stop acting high and mighty.  I want my friend back.

  • The Boppy is not a magical nursing pillow. It only works for me in one specific chair and I find it bulky and a pain in the butt. I have found that a nursing pillow that fits around my arm is far more comfortable and efficient.
  • People telling me to feed my baby formula or baby food...so over it!  She almost sleeps through the night(wakes one time over an 11 hour period), and is well fed according to her pediatrician.  Just because you feed your four month old food already does not mean I have to.  I don't think she's ready and I'm not either. When we are ready, we will go for it.  I don't judge you for already feeding your child solids so don't judge me. To each their own!

Umm what??? Wool isn't even an animal byproduct like milk or eggs are. It's the leftovers from a "hair"cut that would go to waste if it wasn't used for wool products.

Apparently she thinks it's fine cruelly and that's part of the "vegan way of life".  Super dumb

Mmm, bacon jam!  I don't even know what that is, but I want it...
  • @littlecrimsonjester correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it more cruel for sheep not to be trimmed and groomed? The weight of their fur or whatever becomes to heavy and hot to bear and that's one of the reasons they could never survive in the wild on their own... At least that's what I've heard. Also I want in on this bacon jam please:]

That is what I thought but I know better to argue with her when she is in crazy mode.  She was like this about me having my baby in a hospital. Granted she had an awful experience but I think that was more her mother as she was a teen mom.

There's two main schools of thoughts in the veg crowd: abolition versus welfare. Those who are into abolition come from the perspective that it's wrong to use or have ownership over an animal in any capacity, and that must be the camp your wool-hating friend has decided to fall into. Welfarism is more along the lines of what is in the best interest of the animal, and that it's okay to use them to an extent.

Honestly, good for her for taking a stand and committing to it, but she clearly needs to be less obnoxious. Tell her you respect her opinions but need her to also respect yours, and that you have absolutely no interest in discussing animal rights with her. :)  My BFF is vegan and we basically never talk about it beyond the likes of, "uggghh I'm trying to bake brownies and can't find this effing ingredient anywhere!"

I have absolutely no problem with her being a vegan. It's just as she was being pushy. Though I have figured out that she was having issues with her boyfriend has issues with it and they ended up breaking up over it later. I think that is why she was so defensive.
  • Agreed.
Like, if I want to wear polka dotted pants everywhere I go that's my decisions but, I'm not going to bash everyone else for not wanting to wear polka dotted pants everywhere.

(No I'm not saying polka dotted pants is the same as veganism)
but I certainly agree- just because you believe in something doesn't mean everyone has to follow YOUR beliefs.
