Feeding existing kids

what are you guys cooking for your existing kids when smelling and looking at anything makes you sick?

DH is leaving for two weeks of training and I'm afraid they will be living off of PBJ and cereal.  :/

Re: Feeding existing kids

  • My nausea has been terrible the last few days.  They had spaghettios and chicken nuggets last night for dinner and we had ramen noodles tonight.  We are straight up gourmet over here.

  • @ladysaceb ugh I think that's where we are going to end up.  When they are at their dads house, that's basically all they eat, so we try to keep things pretty healthy over here but I cannot handle it.
I guess I'm just going to have to give up on that for a little while but it kills me inside!

  • Yeah, the less I can open the fridge the better. Lots of frozen things. Chicken nuggets. Pouches. Frozen pancakes. Moty

I'm in the same boat. It doesn't make you a horrible mom or anything, but I get the guilt. I'm the same way but my kiddos and I had cereal for dinner tonight (and fruit and water) because I am just so. sick.

Try to cut up fresh fruits and veggies to throw as a side to whatever you're feeding them...To make it more healthy and to lose some of the guilt :-)

    hang in here!

  • I don't know how you ladies do it! I can barely feed myself microwave mashed potatoes.
  • I can't do meat right now. I've been doing a lot of pasta, fruit, and cheese for DD. Today I got some microwaveable mac and cheese and lunchables at the store  which really aren't healthy, but don't require me to prep anything so I'll reserve those for when I really can't handle it.
DH has kind of been on his own, but that means he's heating up chili, spaghettio's, or making tacos which are the worst smelling foods ever!   I'm going to try to get him to start grilling so the food smells stay outside.

  • @spano41 I banned DH from cooking meat for himself in our house last pregnancy. It made me so sick every single time and I swore it lingered longer than any other food smell. He eats out a lot during my first trimester.
  • Peanut butter on crackers, cheese.  DH and I make fruit salad and muffins on the weekends so I can just hand them out throughout the week. These things make me feel a little less guilty about the corn dogs, chicken nuggets and mac and cheese!

A lot of fruit. Frozen spinach ravioli. It makes me feel like I'm still feeding her vegetables.
  • @BAJDesigns  I don't know how the people with toddlers do it either.  And I've had two under two before--I barely remember that time!
luckily my kids are old enough to microwave and pour on their own stuff.  If only they could use the stove independently...

A lot of crackers, cheese, fruit. I'm keeping it healthy, just very simple. Yesterday was by far the worse that my ms has been, but thankfully my sister had dd all day, so I didn't have to even go in the kitchen.

  • Meat and veggies are my enemies right now. Luckily DH is the cook of the family so he is keeping himself and DD fed. They enjoyed steak and broccoli last night while I had a bowl of cereal.

Any tips or tricks on how to get veggies down when the thought of them is repulsive?

  • @LastMango keep taking your vitamins and avoid the veggies if you have to. It's okay. Baby is so little it'll get all it needs from your stores. The veggies are for you at this point. If they make you sick it isn't worth it!
  • My kids are eating cottage cheese, pb&j, applesauce, grapes, bananas, sweet potatoes, string cheese, dill pickles.  I threw some frozen chicken tenders in the oven this morning.  They are thrilled about it all, but I feel bad for DH.  I used to make his lunch for work every day and I've been slacking so much.
  • last night DD had 2 bowls of cereal, 2 granola bars and a wrap with cheese and sour cream on it, she was happy and I didn't throw up
