Travel Plans

Anyone else traveling during the first tri? In the next two months we will be flying to Europe, Arizona, NYC, Michigan and Chicago. We will literally be home for three weeks this summer.
Im nervous about being sick on the planes the most. I plan to talk to my RE about it tomorrow. Anyone have any tips on flying with MS (assuming it comes in the next few days?)

Re: Travel Plans

  • I'm travelling to New Mexico in a few weeks, and I'm pretty nervous about it.

My SIL flew back from California during first tri with TERRIBLE MS. She said it was uncomfortable, but told the flight attendant what was up and they made sure to give her some crackers and warm ginger ale.
  • Loading the player...
  • I totally puked in the little bag and was so gassy the rest of the plane probably wanted to kick me off the two times I flew in first Tri.

My advice would be to wear a dress or stretchy pants.
  • We're going on a beach vacation in the beginning of August so likely just out of 1st Tri.  We're driving so I plan to take lots of water, snacks, and pee breaks.

    Oh and comfy maxi dresses.

  • I am traveling two weeks from now for a conference and then labor day weekend to Disneyland. So yeah, it will be fun, luckily if this follows my last preg I do not throw up just feel sick and I eat something or suck on hard candy and it goes away.

  • We will be traveling the first couple of weeks of September so I'll be in my second trimester by then. But I always have to take Dramamine on a flight anyway so that's standard for me :-P. It's taking the two year old with us that I'm more concerned about!
  • I'm not sure what our travel plans are for this baby, but with DD1 I had awful m/s on a flight and the attendant was so mean about it! I suggest you bring snacks, juice, your own vomit bags, gum, and some lotion or something to sniff if that helps.

I have to fly in July, and I'm planning on an aisle seat, bags and bags of ginger chews, and perhaps a Sea Band. Good luck @txjrog !

  • When I was pg with my DD we traveled to the Caribbean when I was 9 weeks. My m/s started the week before so I made a call to my RE and he gave me an RX for a m/s medication. Otherwise I made sure to wear stretchy, comfy clothes and shoes, and made sure to get up and walk every hour ( almost 5 hour flight).

  • Were travelling to nola to see family at the ten week mark, and im going to karakow, paris, greece, and brussels at the fourteen week mark. Were not worried! Just excited about lower dinner bills due to the no drankin
  • We are driving across the country when I'm about 10 weeks. We are moving and I have to drive one of our cars. It should be interesting. :-)
  • Hi friend!!  :-D

We'll be traveling at least twice this summer.  I'm also super worried about MS.  With my older two, I had hyperemesis suuuuper bad.  It was uncontrollable for the entire 9 months.  I am incredibly worried and anxious about it this time around, as well.

I always found (some) comfort in the sea bands, and I also found foods that were easiest on my stomach and made sure to eat those foods before traveling long distances (whether in the car or by plane).  I also grabbed some of those preggy pop things, ginger suckers, which seemed to help.

And, as a PP mentioned, stock up on those blue barf bags!!!!  They'll come in handy in emergency situations!

Perhaps you can speak with your doc about it beforehand and he/she can prescribe you an anti-nausea med, if it gets really bad.

  • Europe trip in 10 days that I am not looking forward to. It's going be 3 exhausting weeks, I have NINE FLIGHTS in that time.
And I'm also worried about the food. I'm so scared I'll get food poisoning over there....

We just got back from Europe and the food was amazing! Most places felt cleaner and nicer than in the states. I wouldn't worry about food poisoning beyond the standard precautions. Eat loads of pastries and hard cheese if you feel up to it! And waffles. Many waffles.
  • Has anyone tried the relief bands (the electric pulse one) for traveling with MS? I borrowed my FIL'S on a cruise last month for motion sickness, and it worked fantastically. They have them for 90$ on amazon, and it says they also work for MS.
Rainbow baby Dean is due 2/17/17!

It's Greece...so the food is normally the highlight of the trip!  Well, and the ocean.  I go often but 2 years ago I got food poisoning over there. I got over it but the same year my sister, who is a teenager, got campylobacter and needed f/u here in US when she came back and was even contacted by the CDC.  Hopefully was just a fluke since it's never happened before but it's just one other thing to stress about of course...

Oh yuck! Yes, hopefully just a fluke. That makes sense why you were worried.
