The universe seems to have decided that I don't need sleep. I tried going to bed at 10 once DS2 was asleep and have managed to only sleep from 2am to almost 3am. Repeat toddler wakeups and extended newborn wakeups. 6:30 and nursing and I can hear DS1 rustling around in his room. Gah!
This is exactly my night tonight. As soon as DD2 is asleep, DD1 is awake, and vice versa. It's exhausting!

  • DS is actually sleeping, but my husband is going back to work today and of course I have been up all night in so much pain from cramps. I'm BF so I'm pissed and in pain. This is BS

LO cried every hour from 10 PM to 5 AM. If I didn't have MH, I'd be a basket case right now.
  • One of my girls has been awake since 4am and is just now maybe falling back to sleep. Just in time for her sister to get up. I'm so tired and kind of hungry.

I feel you guys in the exhaustion part.
Many nights for me baby is up all night, then toddler up all day.
  • Need to vent-
baby is an excellent baby, he just has a hard time from about 730pm until about 12-1am. Hell fall asleep for a few minutes and then wake himself up, and he hates a swaddle so I usually spend that time coaxing him back to sleep until he finally goes down for good.
today was DH's first day back to work and he was happy to see us and I was happy to see him because right before he came home he baby puked right down my shirt. He held the baby...for about 5 minutes before saying "guess I'll give you to mom". I made us take the dog for a walk to soothe the baby a little and when we got back he said "okay I'm gunna have me time" and he went upstairs to play video games. At 1030 I gently (no, really) reminded him that I had basically been sitting in baby puke for five hours and would really like a shower. He played video games for another hour because he needed to finish his campaign, took the baby for about 15 minutes, changed him on the bed with no pad (the bed I had freshly washed and made and was really looking forward to enjoying) and baby of course peed all over it- guess who hops in the shower and then strips the bed, flinging my phone across the room in the process and saying "well" have to take the down comforter to the dry cleaner (code:me, since I'm at home this summer).
Frustrated, I went into LO's room to try and soothe him to sleep and we finally get to that nice relaxed maybe we'll fall asleep place and guess who comes in and asks if I want the light turned off, waking up the baby in the process?
its now 1am and baby isn't asleep. I have fed him so I've decided if I'm awake cuz babys awake EVERYONE in my house is awake.
tl;dr: DH is a douche. Must be nice to not have boobs.
  • @JoMunson that sounds exactly like my husband! I think he just doesn't get it. My husband's thing lately has been to mention how tired he is. For the record, he has been sleep on the couch I guess so that he isn't  interrupted by the baby at night? He does not get up with her. I, on the other hand, am lucky if I'm only up every 2 hours or so...
  • At what point do I call endless night screaming colic? I think it's getting worse each day. We slept from 1:30-3 and that's it. Usually during the day we will one or maybe two bouts of screaming/tummy ache but it ends much more quickly than this. I feel like there's nothing else to try to soothe him and I'm so fried.
  • On the 'must be nice not to have boobs note' why is every cry 'oh she must be hungry' then hand her off to me. Uh no she just had 10 minutes ago she's not hungry. Babies cry for other reasons!!

I put my foot down and refused to help- he lasted three minutes before saying he must be hungry. He soothed the baby for a long time but it only took about five minutes before I started to feel like the worst mom on the planet for leaving my baby to cry and be upset (...with his dad). It didn't help that every time I'd go to try and help or take the baby back DH would push me away.
currently crying while stairing at my sleeping baby.
  • I'm wide awake right now. Baby is changed, fed and went back to sleep pretty instantly. I was able to pump, store and clean, and prepare another bottle all without waking DH up. I'm pretty proud of myself right now. Sort of just basking in the peace so I can't go back to sleep. Baby also went 7 hours between feedings and slept from 10:30pm till 4am. I still had to wake to pump but didn't have to feed or coax back to sleep. It was glorious.

Omg. This kills me! H's line is "DS is rooting around, looking for the boob." Doesn't matter that he didn't change his diaper, or try to console him, by I dunno...holding him?!  To DH, our son is perpetually hungry and needing his mama.

Omg that is fantastic!!!! How old is your LO?

One word. JEALOUS!!! We had been doing so well the last few nights increasing time between feeds then last night was hell. Barely slept a few hours. LO wanted to cluster feed which she hasn't done in weeks and be held middle of the night which she also hasn't done in weeks!
  • @AliciaD39 I know! I couldn't believe it! Usually he's an "on the dot" 3 hour eater but not last night. The rest was amazing to say the least. And he's one month.

@ayeshaohara he's been really good lately about changing, feeding, then straight back to sleep. He did have a shot yesterday so I hope it wasn't just a fluke!  :#

I'm so jealous. DS is 6 weeks and still at 3 hours on a great night... Usually two. But he was 4 weeks early so two weeks adjusted ( what I whisper to myself every night ) :-)

I'm sure he'll come around!! It can only get better from here right? ;)
  • I love my wonderful DH. God bless him. He's been taking care of the baby far better than I and he'll wake up with me during the night to feed baby, change his diaper and just be up (my LO wakes up around 1am for bottle and wont go to bed until 3am or 4am, after a second feeding.) I cried like a baby out of frustration that he is so good to me and he has to suffer the lack of sleep with me. So at the next feeding (8am) I wake up, take baby to get changed and fed in the baby's room so my hubs has an additional few more hours of shut-eye. It doesn't help that hubs goes to bed hours after baby has (he wants to play video games or watch TV).
  • I'm new to this on this topic. Usually last feeding is around 9. Dad gives Abby a warm wash down and then down for bed. After that I get a good four hours before the next feeding. Totaling about 9 hours of sleep a night. She's been so good! But tonight we broke her schedule. We wanted to go out to watch the finals basketball game and we weren't home till almost 11. Dad was too tired (he has to work in the morning) to do the nightly wash down and lotion. So I fed her and put her down to sleep. It did not go well. She's been up most the night just whining. I will put the paci in her mouth. She's quiet for about 30 mins then spits it out whining again till I get up and put it back it. So far I spent most of the night waiting on the edge of the bed to see if she was really awake or just needed me to put the Paci back in her mouth. It's been a long exhausting night!!
  • Ezra didn't take any naps today so I popped him in the moby around 11pm and he's been asleep ever since. He woke up around 12 and got a change but he wasn't hungry, just went back to sleep. He's been asleep ever since but I woke up to leaking boobs and my good one is rock hard. Currently laying awake next to my sleeping baby debating if I should pump or wake him up to feed.

Dreamfeed! If he's slightly roused by just being held/having a boob nearby, often babies will eat half-asleep and promptly fall right back into deeper sleep.

He totally did this! I heard him make a tiny noise so I put him near the boob and he ate until I was more comfortable and is still asleep.
next challenge...should I change his diaper...

Hahaha that's always a judgment call for me since Nate screams bloody murder every time we even begin to unsnap his onesie.

Y'all, is the RnP all it's cracked up to be? I hear people swear by it when baby won't sleep anywhere else. I've tried to refrain from buying any more baby stuff because I know this LO is our last,  but he is all about sleeping on me at night and won't sleep in anything else (he's only 2 weeks). Worth the purchase?

I think it is. We also spent a fortune on things for him to sleep in, but  even last night when he didn't sleep as well as he has been in the RnP, it was still wonderful compared to before the RnP.

I absolutely love it and couldn't be without it! We have the one that actually rocks and he loves it.

  • @clw617 worth every penny to me!
    Baby # 1: BFP 10/26/12: Baby girl born 7/1/13
    Baby #2: BFP 9/2/15: EDD 5/15/16
  • @clw617, try looking on Craigslist in your area. RNP's are used for such a short time that you may be able to find one in like new condition and pay half the price. We have a number of baby gear items that are just collecting dust and cat hair because LO hates them, but we got them all used so I'm less stressed about getting some use out of them.

Yes. It is the MVP of all our baby gear. Make sure to get the auto rocking one. Best $70 we spent.

It's the first day of our weekend away with my parents, DS, and our two dogs. First thing we did was go out to eat.... I had to stop at 5 different places on the 15 minute (that turned into an hour and a half) ride back to the condo because I got so sick. DS started crying because he was hungry and it was over 3 hours since he had last eaten. I felt awful. Finally got back, got in the bathtub, and BF baby boy, but since it was so long and I decided not to pump this weekend, super engorged/uncomfortable now. FML. Here is to hoping my birthday weekend gets better.

ETA: I feel so ridiculous whining on here, but I had to get it out. Here is to hoping you all are comfy sleeping through the night and don't even see this until tomorrow!
  • @AliciaD39 Sorry you are feeling so sick and hope you feel better. I know that is not fun. That happened to me on one of my first dates with DH. We went to a pizza place that did NOT agree with me. I was sick before I had even finished 1 slice. The 15min drive turned into hitting up every gas station on the way home. Thankfully DH could look past that and still go out with me.

    PS Happy birthday!

It's the worst when your first fun turns sour! Good thing we have good husbands :-) thank youuuuuu!!!

So sorry! :( hope your birthday gets better quickly.
  • Guys, my 6 day old just woke up from a 3 hour stretch of sleep!
Your baby needs to talk to mine please.
  • Guys, my 6 day old just woke up from a 3 hour stretch of sleep! I can't believe it. Margaret has been a pro at napping all day long which of course led to restless nights. Laying here nursing her feeling as rested as I have in a week. On topic....I've found that with baby #2 the long sleepless nights are less lonely and endless because I now think of morning as 5-6am compared to with DS when I'd feel trapped in nighttime hell until 8-9am. Gotta love toddler sleep schedules, he's an early bird. I'm feeling like I've said this already as im typing it but seriously it makes a huge difference emotionally!
    OMG this is so true!
  • @AliciaD39 I hope your birthday weekend improves!  That sounds like a rough start.
