Am I feeling the baby move?

Ok guys, first timer here, so bear with me. I'm 14 weeks today (yay!) and I had a client ask me this weekend if I was feeling the baby move yet. I said I didn't think so, but they started to explain what it felt like and I'm wondering if I'm not. It's somewhere between cramp/gas bubble/butterfly. It doesn't hurt, I don't feel it all the time, no bleeding at all, and it seems to come in spurts (like right now, it's happening quite a bit). I don't want to be "one of those people" who says they feel something really early on and just assume.  Some people I've asked say it's too early and some say it's right on time. I'm truly just wondering out of curiousity. Thanks ladies!

  • It's hard to say. Everyone is different. I didn't feel my first until closer to 18wks.

Everyone is different. With my 1st, I didn't feel monement until right at 21 weeks.
  • You might be! I didn't feel my first until about 16 to 17 weeks. I'm 12 weeks now and can feel the baby at night. It is so faint but I know the difference now. After my ultrasound last week I also know exactly where the baby is sitting. If I lay on my stomach I can really feel the flutters.

I'll be 14 weeks on Thursday, and I don't think I have felt anything yet personally. I kinda think I did last week when the u/s tech was jiggling my belly and could see him moving around on the screen, but that might have just been my mind lol.

ETA: The tech told me because I'm heavier (I'm about 200 lbs and have a bit of a belly, not huge but definitely big enough for me look slightly pregnant when I wasn't) I may not feel him moving as soon as other, smaller moms. Idk if there is any truth to that.

  • When I lay on my left side, I feel like I can feel the baby moving or kicking. Or maybe it's just a twitch. But I always lean back because then I start thinking, "What if it's kicking because I'm squishing him?!" LOL

  • I'm 14 weeks 4 days and I swear I've felt periodic fluttering in the past week! Obviously nothing external, but I get these brief bursts of flutters and I don't know what else it could be. I've only felt it maybe 3x but it definitely didn't feel like gas bubbles it was almost like tickling flutters. I hope it is baby, for both of us, and I hope it becomes more frequent!
  • You could definitely be feeling movement. I've been reading that STMs may feel movements earlier because they know what to anticipate, which would lead me to believe that identifiable movement is possible pretty early on depending on the person. With DD I had an anterior placenta so I didn't feel movement until way later. I'm only about 11wks now, but I'm curious to see when I start to feel things this time around!

  • I'm feeling movement for sure, but I'm also having twins.  Flutters on occasion, but some rolling too.  Can't wait to see what they're up to in there tomorrow.  I swear they were wresting a while back.

  • I think it's definitely possible, but with your first, it's more like hindsight where you go, "oh! That was probably it" I am 12 weeks with my 3rd and I feel more than just "gas bubbles". It's not intense, or often, but it's there.
  • I'm 14 weeks, and I started feeling some flutters on Thursday. I grew up with some pretty severe gastrointestinal issues (that have mostly subsided as an adult), so I am very aware of my lower body/abdomen and what various things feel like. This was a flutter on my left side, down low. It didn't feel like anything else (almost like someone running their fingers very lightly on the inside of my belly). I've felt it a few times since then when I lie on my right side.

I have yet to be sure if I am feeling anything either, my mom seems to think I should totally have felt something by now...but I think she is slightly crazy lol I think most of the for sure felt movement happens closer to 20 weeks, but hey I'ma FTM too so I'm about as much help as wet wood while trying to start a fire hahah

  • @em01092 that's silly. YOU should be able to feel baby kicking you on the inside at the same time as anyone else. Maybe you won't be able to feel from the outside as soon.
  • Thanks for the feedback guys! I go to the doctor tomorrow, so I will ask her too.
  • When I'm laying in certain positions, I'm pretty sure I can feel baby...probably because I'm squishing it! It's consistently on the left side, which is where baby has been located the past two ultrasounds. Sometimes it feels like very light tickling, and sometimes it kind of hurts. But when I'm going about my day, I can't feel anything.

I'm 14w5d, and just today started feeling something that I can only describe as a flutter, and it's occurring regularly through the day. But it's not coming from where I'd expect it to be - it's very low, and deep - almost back near my sacrum. I have a retroverted uterus, could I be feeling quickening? I've had plenty of gas issues but this feels different.
  • Yes! I'm small framed, not much hips, short, petite. While everyone is different, and begins to feel baby at different times, I feel like my small stature leaves less room for the baby and I feel them pretty early. It also means my belly gets freakishly large when I am pregnant because there just isn't much room!

With my first, I felt her move right at 14 weeks, same with my second daughter. I'll be 14 weeks on Saturday, but have felt the baby move for the last 3 days. Not all the time, sometimes when I'm lying really still, I feel a little jab- it doesn't hurt at all (though I know it will in a few months). It's like a gentle poke. And sometimes I feel the fluttery movement if I'm sitting with my legs up. I felt it once when I was bending over, I think when I change positions a certain way it disturbs the baby and the reaction is for it to move!

So trust your judgement! It does feels different from gas and digestive movements. And it's not too early:)

With my first a felt movement from 16 weeks on. My DS was a mover, still is, people would stop and watch my stomach because you could see him moving from across a room ( around 30 weeks, not 16). It's not to early, it probably is your LO! Congrats!
