What am I doing wrong?...

So my DS has been sleeping in the crib at night only waking a couple times to eat and I recently got him in the crib for his two daily naps. Win.

Then out of nowhere a couple days ago he started getting more clingy and refusing the crib. Ugh. He is teething but he already has 7 teeth and he's 9 months old. We started some new foods but he doesn't seem to have an upset stomach. He's close to walking.  .idk what's up with his sleep but I miss mine

I hear all these mom's talking about their babies sleeping 12 hour stretches and it makes me feel like I'm missing something or doing something wrong.

He also 99% of the time wakes exactly an hour after going to bed and needs to be nursed/rocked back to sleep.... help. It's like clockwork.

What am I missing? I've tried some gentle sleep training that I had success with before and he just gets mad. Idk how ti get him to sleep longer.

TIA...

Re: What am I doing wrong?...

  • No advice, but you're not the only one. My guy wakes up 20-60 minutes after falling asleep in the crib every night and needs rocking and nursing to fall asleep again. He then wakes up at least 1-2 more times.
Some kids just aren't great sleepers.

Every night my kiddo wakes up 1-3 times (at least) before settling in for a longer stretch.
  • It might be a phase. All last week, we barely got any sleep. She was clingy and woke up crying often. This week, she's been sleeping through the night. I've read that when they are learning a new skill, they have trouble sleeping. Maybe it's from all that exhausting walking practice
  • Thank you everyone! It makes me feel better to know I'm not missing anything major. Usually me and DS are very good at communicating. I agree that it's probably learning how to walk...it's a big transition and maybe he just needs more support. It's just hard to be so tired all the time...we you all well know
  • Just when you think you have things figured out, LOs will change everything.
LOs will also be so excited about a new skill that it's all they will want to do. Hang in there, it will pass.
  • I think they just go through phases like this. My son hasn't slept through the night since early December but he does well most of the time only waking up once. Then he'll randomly go through periods of a week or even several weeks where he wakes up every hour and fights bedtime horribly.

  • Apparently there's another sleep regression between 8 and 10 months. HOORAY!!!!! I can't tell if we're in it or if it's just because he's sick but we're back to bed sharing lol
  • Thank you everyone for sharing and your support it really does help more than you know

We haven't bed shared for months but I believe we are nowin the thick of the 8 month sleep regression so little buddy is back in my bed cause I just can't get out of bed every half hour all night.
  • Maybe a sleep regression?? Mine always went down fine (most of time) for naps during day. But within the past week has been fighting naps like crazy. She's 8 months old. She's also never been a good sleeper at night - usually falls asleep between 8:30 and 9:30, but will typically wake once in middle of the night for a snack nurse. Occasionally she will fall back asleep without a nurse or sleep till morning but that is rare.
  • So glad I'm seeing this right now. You are all not alone. I just got off the phone with my child care provider because he had an "off day". He was screaming mad flailing himself and just crazy for naps. Which hasn't been him. And this has been happening at night at the first wake up (hour after bed) and the rest. 1-3 more times. Unless I nurse him he flips out for about 5 mins even in our arms like he is so mad he has to go back to sleep. Felt like I was Doing something wrong. He has been crawling and is so close to walking now, teething bad (has 7 now but had been pushing his fingers towards the back now). So it's like the perfect storm over here.
  • 8 months here and she's been so wacky with naps and super cranky in the evenings! I was hoping it's all cause of sleep regression. She slept semi-ok finally last night. She's might be teething and no matter what we do, she just isn't crawling yet so hoping those wheels are turning haha.
Last night she was up every 45 mins tossing and turning.
