Stitches Question

During birth I experienced a minor tear on my labia minora. I'm not sure to what degree because my OB said it was only minor as he was stitching it up. Today I noticed I was having a pain in a specific spot if I sat a certain way or if my pad rubbed against it so I got my handy dandy front facing camera out to look and I noticed a bump on the stitching line. I didn't see any puss, head or anything that would necessarily point to infection on it, but it is becoming more uncomfortable (however I think that's just because I'm aware of it and worrying now). I plan on calling my OB tomorrow morning but I was curious if anyone experienced this? Is it normal? Does it sound like an infection of the stitches?

Re: Stitches Question

  • How long ago did you give birth? I noticed that the stichiching was most uncomfortable 1-1.5 weeks postpartum and has become much less noticeable since then. I could feel if the most when I was sitting on the toilet or at the end of a busy day.

  • I'm 11 days PP
  • Sometimes when they do a stitch it can gather the skin a little which would cause a "pucker" or bump and once swelling goes down it can become uncomfortable and more noticeable. Mine felt uncomfortable for the first two weeks, especially wearing pads.

I had an episiotomy and actually developed an infection about 10 days after I gave birth. I called because I was in more pain and had a stinging feeling and they told me that was normal but the next day I could barely get up and down from a seat so I called again went in and I did in fact have an infection and they gave me antibiotics. If the pain is worse than it was initially I would call your OB because it can get worse and they sometimes have to reopen the area and drain it so try to avoid that!!
  • ^^^what she said. I didn't believe it when it got more uncomfortable at about 1.5-2 weeks pp but that's how it went  :( entering 3rd week and finally starting to feel more like myself! Everything about being pp seems to be about just getting through those first couple weeks lol. Hang in there! And oh ya, always confirm with Dr. If concerned!
  • I called and they said that if it continued to cause discomfort/got worse to call back and come in. Hoping it's just a skin gathering since it so far seems to be a little better.
  • I'm two weeks pp and feel the exact same way. Kind of like one spot is caught in something. It's more uncomfortable than painful so I'm hoping it goes away soon.
