Bleeding worries!

Hi ladies,

So this is my second pregnancy, the first one ended in mc at about 8 weeks. :(
I'm a little worried/confused. about 3 days ago I was spotting a light pinkish color...no cramps or anything. Then that turned into a light brown, then a dark brown spotting. I was told that as long as it's not bright red, there isn't too much reason for concern. Well, last night, when i wiped after I peed, it was bright red! I just had small cramps on my side for a few minutes and that's it. When I went to the bathroom this morning, there was nothing! And I feel no cramps today either, just random "funny feeling" in there (almost like gas that's stuck)...I don't know what to make of this, it's driving me crazy.

I have a doctor's appointment today at 3:45, but wanted to see if this has happened to any of you?

Thanks!

Re: Bleeding worries!

  • @Qbanrican84 - I had a very similar experience on Monday - some red blood but no pain. Ultrasound that afternoon showed a baby with a heartbeat - fx everything turns out for you and your bean. Feel free to join in the PGAL thread if you want to talk more with ladies who are pregnant after previous losses.

  • The appointment will tell you more than we can guess at - unfortunately, bleeding can range from something that you should worry about to something that isn't at all a worry. My BFF bled a TON of frank blood throughout first trimester and into second trimester and had a subchorionic hematoma. It was nervewracking to get through but she now has a gorgeous healthy 5 month old baby boy who is ahead on all of his milestones. I'm so sorry -  It's awful to have to wait for that appointment. Good luck this afternoon!

You are not alone. :( Just have to wait for that ultrasound. Instead of waiting weeks next week I might go to one of those ultrasounds-on-wheels trucks sponsored by a local church. obvious ulterior motives, but I just really want to know if things are okay!

  • @mjolk I feel you! my widwife's practice told me they don't do ultrasounds until 12 weeks! I'm only 7...there's no way I can wait that long. Best wishes to you too xoxo

So yeah I had bright red with little to no pain, mostly like some period cramps. But freaked out cause it was bright red and went to emergency room and found out I was having MC. But my friend right now has light bleeding everyday, went to OB and emergency room, found a heart beat and everything and soo far she has not had MC. So basically it is one of those things you just need to get checked out by the doctor anc they can let you know if everything is looking good or not.

So upset... felt something leaking and had bright red blood. Hadn't had any blood for a week and it had never been like this -- it was brownish and not some red gush.

    upset and panicy

  • @mjolk was it brown? If it was brown you should be ok. It's just your body kind of cleaning house. If you're worried call the OB but I think they'll say the same.

no. bright red flow.  :( don't have a doctor and the gyn. office told me they cannot see me until my scheduled appointment.

  • @mjolk I'm really sorry to hear you're going through this; it's very stressful and scary when something like this happens, and I would be really frustrated with my gynaecologist if they were that unsupportive during something like this. If it continues, or if you get any painful cramping, I think it would be totally reasonable to call the doctor's office back or, if they won't budge, go into an urgent care or ER, depending on how far away your scheduled appointment is. ERs can be a difficult place to have to be for a problem like this, but if the alternative is being in the dark for a long time, I think it would be better to get some care and reassurance.
  • How much blood was it? Is it still flowing? Are you having pain?

I know it's scary but it is possible that everything is fine. I had a bright red flow (it got to be about 2 inch stain on my underwear before I realized, and it took several hours to go to pink spotting to brown spotting over the course of the day, and baby was just fine.

  • I second an ER trip if the dr won't budge. How far along are you?
  • mjolkmjolk member
7-8 weeks. SO is also is also insisting I go to ER so I will go. I bled enough to think I had a heavy period before I knew I was pregnant. And this is worse but maybe now lightening up. I am just tired of not knowing get what is going on and feel I deserve some kind of ultrasound. Maybe it is convenient for doctors to just make me wait but it definitely. isn't okay with me. :( thanks for reassurance.

  • @mjolk I am so sorry you are going through this. The one thing I will say about an ultrasound in the ER is that they don't do vaginal ultrasounds day in and day out. I would tell the tech that you are very sensitive in hopes that they will make it a quick ultrasound. I recently had an ultrasound in the ER (the longest one ever!!) and I felt like my uterus was drop kicked for 2 days after and spotted more than I did before I went in. I am not saying this to scare to or to convince you not to go. I just want to make sure you speak up and ask the ultrasound tech if they can be quick and gentle. Sending you positive thoughts.

@mjolk I'm so sorry you're having bleeding. I know it can be absolutely terrifying. If you are continuing to bleed or are having any cramping or pain, I would go to the ER. You'll definitely be in my thoughts today.

They found no explanation for my bleeding and said the embryo was in the right place but small and didn't detect a heartbeat. So I am back for another blood test Monday. :/  Good news is that it is uterine and definitely there, but otherwise not much news. I am very glad I went -- they were very kind. Thanks and sorry for hijacked thread.

  • I'm glad they treated you well! Sorry you didn't get a definitive answer though. I apologize if you posted this before, but how sure are you on your estimate of 7-8 weeks?
  • mjolkmjolk member
Not totally, basing it entirely on LMP but my cycles are very average. They said the embryo was about 12mm, so 1.2 cm.

@mjolk  I am having spotting too and some bright red.  I had an u/s yesterday and they couldn't find the source of the bleeding either, but they heard the heart beat and saw tiny baby in my uterus.  They said maybe my OB can find the source on my cervix, that appointment isn't until June 20th.  The spotting isn't going away if anything it's worse.. so I'm still nervous. Im just saying, we are in the same boat!! I'm glad to hear that you had a good outcome and FX for your blood test on Monday!!

  • @cabu14 I've heard that U/S can themselves cause irritation and bleeding from the cervix. If they were suspecting the bleeding was already coming from that area, perhaps the U/S just caused a bit more irritation? Fingers crossed for you!

@cabu14 This is EXACTLY what happened to me. I spotted more after my ultrasound than before. Now it has all but stopped. The US was on Sunday and I have taken it VERY easy this week, complete pelvic rest, no standing for long periods of time, no long walks - basically I have been a couch potato other than cooking dinner and the minimal walking I have to do at work. It is so stressful though!! Seeing the HB is a huge milestone.

  • mjolk  no worries on hijacking the thread! That's what we're all here for! I'm sorry you are going through this, trust me I know the feeling. You  may want to look at switching doctors if you told them you were bleeding bright red blood and they didn't want to see you right away  that's just crazy.
I hope it all turns out well for you xoxox
