"Dear Acne, Please GO AWAY! You are not welcomed"

Ugh -- I had acne with my first pg that ended in m/c.  It was just getting better (with use of prescription benzyol peroxide) before BFP.  I actually quit using the prescrip in my 2ww.  I was hoping this pg would be different, and it is -- the acne is not as bad, but it is still there.  Seriously, I am 31 years old, a manager & professional, this really sucks!   What are you doing to help yours?   I have heard of cetiphil (sp?) -- where do you get that face wash?

  • I've been using the Cetaphil.  I get it at Walmart or Target.  The bottle is white and the writing is blue and green.  It works pretty well, and it's really gentle.  Nothing really helps with the pregnancy acne though, at least not for me!  Get some good make-up :-)

  • I have PCOS so I always have acne, but for the first time in my life I don't mind it :) If it means my hormones are going crazy b/c I am pregnant - then bring it on!!! Try to think of it that way :) But I know it does suck - I work in accounting in a professional environment and I'm sure people think I'm 18 or something...wait until they see me 18 and knocked up! lol
  • Oh, as for what I am using, I just bought some Earth Science's natural stuff at Whole Foods b/c once I got pregnant I was too afraid to use stuff w/ parabens, etc in it.  But honestly, the acne is caused by hormones - not much you can do, but use something gentle and simple.
  • I'm in the same boat. My face is one big pimple and nothing is helping... Cetaphil is a gentle face wash for people with senstive skin. It won't help a hormonal break out, you can get it at any drug store or super market. What % was the benzyol peroxide prescription? I'm wondering if maybe I should get one.

  • ughh i am in the same boat as you. the dermo said to quit using retinoids and benzoyl peroxide.  She gave me  topical erythromycin (which is a antibiotic).  I put this on and cover my face with bare eccentuals makeup.  I too am a professional--its so embarssing.  The dermo did say it clears up like never before after the first tri.

good luck. they also said to use cetaphil as a gentle wash and moisturizer

  • I don't have acne on my face, but my back is terrible! I hadn't ever had it on my back before - this is so weird! I'm not sure what to do about it either!

It is 5% -- the generic version is $100!!  It is a gel that you put on twice a day.  I am waiting until I see the doctor on the 20th to see if she recommends continuing use or waiting until after the baby is born.

  • Benzoyl is rated level C for pregnant woman. not completely bad but questionable.  https://safefetus.com/DrugDetail.asp?DrugId=778&TradeName=Benoxyl&TradeId=910

i have to admit i was dying to continue to use it, but its just not worth it.

  • I know tea tree oil is another alternative for breakouts. But I'm not sure if it's safe for pregnant women, i think it is, but I'm not 100% sure.

  • My doctor said benzoyl peroxide is fine (By the way, she is currently pregant and using it) I used salicylic acid before getting pregnant but had to quit using that. I am using Dove soap and occasionally Clean and Clear Exfoliating Scrub- it doesn't have salicylic acid in it and it makes your face feel tingly and clean. I also picked up some tea tree oil for spots.
  • Technically I am not on this board yet...but, I saw this post and am breaking out like CRAZY!  It's totally not like me at all!  It's terrible.

When did you ladies notice a change in your skin?  How early in your PG?

Oh & I am considering using Origins products, they are more natural and they have an organic line as well.

  • I decided to go all natural with Burt's Bees.  It doesn't have anything harmful in it, it smells amazing, and my skin has never been softer or clearer.  I use the Soap Bark and Chamomille (sp?) face wash and then put on the Day Cream made with Royal Jelly.  (That seriously feels like silk going on!  Amazing!)  They make a spot treatment too that I use.  It's pretty good.  Oh, and I got the Mama Bee's Belly Butter.  I know it's a tad early, but I'm using it anyways.  It's great too.

  • I love my Zeno Mini.  It's kinda spendy and eats through batteries, but it definately works.

  • Tell me about it!  I think mine is finally improving a little, but nothing seems to work!  I am also getting random ones on the upper part of my chest (which I have NEVER had) and on the back of my neck below the hair line!  Gross!

  • You can do mini facials at home ... I still don't see why some women pay me $65+ ... when it can be done at home  (shhhh I didn't tell you guys that!)

Cetaphil is fine, but if you're really acneic  ... like a stage 3 and 4 ... it wont do a whole lot of good. But if that is what you will use I would suggest the Oily/combo one, not the regular.

I personally (with Dr. approval) use a 8% Benz. Per. face wash (seriously it's on your face for what? a minute?) and Erythromycin to help combat any breakouts (and I'm clear!)  And the Erythro is safe during pg .... I have heard that from a few Dr's as well as reading it. BUT don't take my word for it ..... always ask your Dr. not all concur with what another Dr says.
