Swelling

I know swelling is a normal expected part of pregnancy, but what I'm experiencing is weird and I'm definitely going to bring it up to my Dr on tuesday, but wondered if anyone else has experienced the same thing...

Every morning I wake up, my right hand feels swollen to its max. I can't even make a fist, it's so uncomfortable. Whether I sleep on either side or my back, just my right hand swells. After cracking and adjusting joints it improves slightly, and throughout the day it gets better, but it always seems to linger.
Anyone else have this issue, and what do you do with it?

Re: Swelling

  • The only swelling I get is when I'm at work and on my feet all day. Working in healthcare sucks when you're pregnant.

  • I had that with my first pregnancy. It was pregnancy induced carpal tunnel syndrome. Sometimes wearing a wrist brace to bed would help. I would also wake up in the middle of the night with my hands asleep and tingling, super annoying. It went away as soon as I delivered but it's pretty uncomfortable while it's going on.
  • I would certainly talk to your doctor about it. It maybe nothing but it maybe an indicator of something you should be aware of. It doesn't sound like a common pregnancy symptom (especially not this early on).

  • I would definitely talk to your doctor about it and just ask what's up. All of my swelling is in my ankles and feet and it's always at the end of the day. Hang in there!

  • If I'm remembering correctly, swelling in the feet or ankles is normal/expected, and swelling in the hands or face is a call your doctor symptom.

  • I had pregnancy-induced carpal tunnel and feel it starting up again, but mine was just pain, not swelling. I wore wrist braces when it got uncomfortable and otherwise just dealt with it. Talk to your doctor to be sure -- I hope it's nothing!
