Re: TTTC Checkin 05/31/2016

• Good Morning Everyone!

I am on cycle day 29? maybe. I've stopped counting. No spike in temp yet. I've been doing castor oil packs this cycle and even if they aren't actually doing anything I've been enjoying the quiet time laying on the couch with a hot water bottle on me.

This has been a rough week for me besides the whole TTTC thing. My dad has a rare form of cancer and he was kicked off the trial he was on last week because all of his tumors were still growing. So that was a rough pill to swallow for me. But they are hoping to get him into another trail in the next 4 weeks. Which means he will be med free until then and that is a silver lining. When he isn't taking meds he feels wonderful and I don't like seeing him so sick.

And that leads me into the QOTW: My dad used to work in a foundry, where they poured molten brass into molds. He was the supervisor of the mechanical department so he was always working on the machines. He always had this smell about him when he got home. I loved it. And to this day (some 20 years later) he'll have that smell after working in a shop or on the cars all day I always tell him he smells like Riverside Brass. And I smile. I can sometimes smell it on other men when I'm out and about and it makes me think of my dad.

I'm a huge Daddy's girl if no one's noticed. :)

Hello. :) I am still waiting to find out what is going on with me this cycle. I did Clomid 150mg CD 5-9. Fertility friend is giving me cross hairs at CD 17 and I'm not so certain it's true. My temps were up for a few days but they're down the last two. So I'm waiting for FF to tell me I didn't really O. I have had a lot of symptoms, twinges and stabs in my ovaries, cramps like I'm going to start AF. My husband takes the week of our anniversary off every year, and that was last week, so we bought a bunch of junk food and pigged out all week. I normally do low carb so it made me sick all week. So happy to be back on keto today! I already feel better. But that could have messed with my temps, too. I didn't sleep well with the stomach aches and nausea. But I have also had ridiculous amounts of creamy cm. I needed to wear a panty liner for a few days.

I know. My doctor should be monitoring me to confirm O. My insurance doesn't cover ultrasounds and blood tests, so I didn't push for him to monitor me because I was afraid of the costs. Next cycle I think I'll make him watch me though. Because not knowing for sure is driving me nuts, and I'm not turning an OPK and my temps are hard to understand.

Here's my chart if you're curious.
My Ovulation Chart

QOTW: Oh. I have so many beloved smells that it's difficult to pin point one exactly. I tend to favor "Hawaiin Aloha" type candles and air fresheners. I used to love Axe "Touch" when I was in high school, but I don't know about that anymore. My favorite perfume is Adidas Adrenaline which has been discontinued. :( My husband and his deodorant are often wonderful smelling, especially when I'm hormonal! I also love the smell of a breeze on a summer day, or a cold autumn day when the leaves are crisp and perfuming everything. I also love the smell of rain. And my sister's laundry detergent. I like smells. :D

@Plainjanie I'm sorry about your father. That is so hard to take. I understand how you feel about that smell, my mother always had a smell when she came back from working at the restaurant. Sometimes I can smell it on other people, or at restaurants. But it makes me smile, too. And her house smells like cigarettes. And I hate it, and I hate that she smokes, but that smell is so familiar to me and so representative of her. It's comforting.

Plainjanie i'm so sorry to hear about your dad. mine just recently finished radiation for cancer and we are waiting to hear if that put him in remission... I hope your dad gets into that second trial... he is in my prayers <3

i'm currently just waiting for AF to show up...although i'm still technically in the TWW i feel like this cycle is a BFN..... i run normally 32-33 day cycles... so AF is expected around June 7th or 8th. i'm supposed to call my REs office on CD1 so we can move forward with IUI next cycle

i feel like i want to ask him if he thinks it would increase our chances by moving from Clomid to Femara .. I also want to ask him to prescribe ovidrel trigger shot...... I don't want to come off as a pushy patient or like i'm telling him how to do his job.. clearly he is the specialist .... and i'm not generally an assertive person but i want to make sure that I get the most out of the IUI cycles :/

editing to add QOTW: Sunblock... i am obsessed with the smell of sunblock.... lol

@Plainjanie I am sorry to hear about your dad.

I am on about CD #9 and should be just entering my fertile period. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how I'm going to manage the BD as my DH has terrible poison ivy all over. I haven't broken out yet, but I am very nervous about the possibility of getting poison ivy on my lady bits. He just got a script for some Prednisone today so FX I won't have to hold off for too long.

Oops, and I forgot to post earlier, my favorite smell is probably lilacs. As a kid, we had a big lilac bush right outside my window...pure heaven

• @Plainjanie Thoughts and prayers for your dad!

I'm currently CD24, 6DPO, so clomid seems to be working quicker than last cycle. I was pissed when my doc said to try it for another month at the same dose (after O was on CD33ish last cycle), but maybe he was right and I was just being impatient.
Now I hate the waiting game of TWW! UGH!!! I'm so impatient.

QOTW: I love the smell of salt air near the ocean! I want to bottle that up!!!

• On cycle day 10. Still confused as to why I did worse on 100mg clomid then 50mg but I am back on 50mg and hoping this cycle works. I'm not working and I've cut a lot of negative people out of my life so I'm hoping if stress was a factor it isn't now.

Qotw: dragons blood incenses
• Last week I was very excited that my blood test confirmed ovulation. Two days later my temp dropped below my coverline and I started spotting. I was at 9dpo, could this be the infamous implantation dip/spotting???? Nope! The next day I started my period. I am super happy that 50mg of clomid is making me ovulate but I am concerned that I have a short lp. My period was also very short, only 3 days so I wonder if that means I have a thin uterine lining. I have an u/s next week to check things out.

@plainjane I am also using castor oil packs prior to O. Who knows if it helps but it can't hurt.

@mythril sorry you haven't O'd yet. That is super upsetting.

My sister is still on full life support but things are looking a little better. She has congestive heart failure and has had two open heart surgeries in the last two weeks. I have been under so much stress and anxiety because of this my doctor wants me to take a month off of work under FMLA to take care of my anxiety, I submitted the paperwork to HR, hopefully the man doesn't fight me on it.

I love the smell of fresh basil.

• We met with the endocrinologist after H had an SA. Basically, his morphology was a little off, so we have a new game plan. I'm currently taking Provera to start my period. Then around day 10 I will take a trigger shot and then we will do an IUI. I'm feeling hopeful again after the failed HSG experience.

• @Plainjanie prayers and hugs

I'm CD2 & waiting to see the RE on 8/8 for a new plan since clomid didn't do the trick. Feeling overwhelmingly sad and scared that there are no children in our future right now... It's hard watching my husband realize that this is for real. He's been so positive and absolutely convinced we are going to conceive he really hasn't understood why I've been so upset. Now as we look at the $$ we've already spent and what we have for the future it's starting to sink in :/

Hugs to you as well @ReesaAnne16 I can't even imagine how devastated you must feel. This shit sucks. I hope you're able to look at this as an improvement on this journey. You DID get a bfp, and that shows something happened in there! I hope things only get better from here on out, girl. Thinking of you.

I don't really have much to report on. We have our consultation tomorrow to go over the deets of the trial, and then I'll know more about my IVF protocol. I'm not tracking my cycle this month at all and it feels so. good.

• Thank you everyone, I really appreciate your kind words @wifeinraleigh28 @lablover78 @GoldenKeys @ducks&cats @jojomama25

I am really trying to believe we are headed in the right direction. I also just found out that my RE is moving to a different city, so I guess I'll be getting a new doctor. I'm wondering if they will have a different opinion on the DNA frag results. My old one was optimistic that it doesn't matter, but I'm very worried it is the source of our difficulty and loss.

@lablover78 I'm sorry your DH is starting to lose hope, I depend on mine so much to stay positive through this all. I hope your RE has more ideas for you. Is femara an option?

@ducks&cats I'm still praying for your sister, and I hope you are able to get the time off. It is a really good idea that you take a break so you can focus on your sister and yourself. *hugs*

@Plainjanie I can't imagine how hard it is to see your dad feeling ill. I will be praying for him

• Please add me to the group :)

How long have you been trying to conceive? 3 years

Diagnosis: July 2015 HSQ showed blocked tubes and DH'S SA showed morphology. 1 failed fresh and 2 failed frozen IVF cycle. Last month underwent a diagnostic laparoscopy which unblocked tubes and found lots of scar tissue, stenotic cervix and confirmed PCOS / mild endo with possible annovary cycles

Treatment: currently using OPK'S and TI. Go back to my gyno in August to talk about next steps if I don't conceive before then.

QOTW: I use Young Living Essential oils and I love the smell of their Eucalyptus oil!
• 1. How long have you been TTC?
1.5 years

2. What is your diagnosis?
possible mild PCOS, possible mild MFI, possible ??

3. What is your current treatment plan?
Letrozole + IUI (round 2 this cycle & they upped the dosage, I guess trying for more than one mature follicle?)

QOTW: What is your favorite smell/scent?
Right after rain on a hot day. Makes me smile every time :)
• Currently on CD 15 and just taking OPKs and waiting for ovulation.

After meeting with the doctor last week, we were told there shouldn't be any reason we can't get pregnant despite the MFI and my irregular cycles. He recommended starting a monitored cycle of Clomid and moving to trigger shots and IUI if necessary. We are just trying to decide what the best route would be and will probably try to start Clomid in the fall once my work schedule falls back into a predictable routine.

We spent a lot of time with family over the memorial day weekend, so we decided to finally tell our families what was going on. It was tough, but I'm so glad we did it so it doesn't feel like we're keeping anything from them any more. Everyone was really supportive and willing to help however they could.

QOTW: I have a Scentsy and tend to use fruity scents most of the time, but love when it's fall and I can use the cider and pumpkin roll scents! Yum!

• @ReesaAnne16 Not yet... I can't begin the screening process until the 7th, which will require blood work and making sure all my labs (specifically AMH) qualify. I was told to schedule a consultation first though, which is what we're doing this afternoon. :)

• Thank you everyone for all your support. I truly can feel your positive thoughts and prayers!

@harleyquinn0621 I will also keep your Dad in my thoughts! Positive thinking his way! I am also pushing for a trigger shot. Although today they didn't seem super keen about it.

@hoffmanr7 I hope your DH's poison ivy is healing quickly!

@ducks&cats your sister is still in my thoughts! She sounds like a fighter!

@lablover78 my DH is also starting to feel the same. The past couple of weeks he just keeps saying 'I've been ready for this for 10 years...'

@wifeinraleigh28 let us know how your consult went today! I'll be thinking about you!

We had our follow up with our new RE today and our plan is to do an IUI next cycle, with gonal-f, progesterone supplement and possibly a trigger shot depending if my body is working as it should. He also wants to start me on provera on Saturday (CD30) if my period hasn't started. Which there are no signs of that...

The nurse also went over all of our tests and info all at once and I have a MUCH better understanding of our situation. Our MFI is mild. And after this monitored cycle, they believe I am not ovulating all the time, but do have a good egg reserve. Today I am feeling hopefully and very very thankful that we finally have a solid plan and are moving forward.

I am currently on my second cycle of femara. Decided to do another femara cycle. Today is cd 9, waiting to ovulate. Last cycle when I was on femara I ovulated late cd 15/early cd 16. Ultrasound showed 1 good follicle. So we are doing the same thing this time, hoping second time is a charm! Starting OPK tomorrow. BD EOD, from cd 10-17. Fingers crossed it results in my 1st ever BFP!

My favourite scent is anything vanilla, well pretty much any food smells. I buy lots of food smelling candles, DH loves nature smells like trees, fire, clean linen etc.

• Thanks for the well wishes @ReesaAnne16 and @Plainjanie. The consult today went well and I understand how the trial works much better. I actually go back tomorrow for a saline ultrasound and possibly mock transfer (required as part of the screening process) and then I'll have to go in probably next week for blood work and to sign consents (also part of the screening process). I should know within 2 weeks if I'm accepted. Participating in the trial will only cost us $2,900 for an entire IVF cycle, as opposed to over $20k. I feel very thankful for this opportunity!

@Plainjanie That is wonderful that you have a plan!! Good luck with your IUI next cycle!! :)

• @Ducks&Cats that's good news! Focus on yourself and your family and hopefully you will be feeling stronger in a month.

I started reading It Starts With the Egg last night and it helped put me back into planning/control mode as I threw out all of our plastic containers and ordered a glass set on good old Amazon. This journey is so emotionally draining but the alternative (giving up) is not something I can emotionally handle at this point. Hoping to see some BFPs on this board soon to cheer me up!

• Finally had my ultrasound and the results weren't what I expected. My ovaries didn't look like PCOS (although the bloodwork I had did suggest it according to my GP). Not sure what to make of that now.

I also had a small nodule and a hemorrhagic cyst so they want me to come back in 3 months to look at it again.

Still 4 months to see the RE - I'm feeling impatient again!!

@plainjanie - thinking of you and your dad.

@harleyquinn0621 - I think its reasonable to say to your doctor "I've heard of this - do you think this would be an option for me?"

@Ducks&Cats - I also think I have a short LP (sometimes 9 days). Does a light and short period mean you have a thin lining? I often wonder about this too

@lablover78 - thinking of you and your DH. don't give up hope.

@wifeinraleigh28 - excited for you to start IVF!!

@ReesaAnne16 - so sorry about the short excitement and now disappointment

@cbrashers124 - I'm planning to tell my mom next weekend too. I'm glad it went well for you. I'm starting to really feel like I could use some family support in all this.

It felt good to let go of the "secret" I had been hiding, and my mom was very supportive. She is such an optimist, and I could really use her optimism right now. Good luck with your conversation with your mom.

• @seethosestars I am not certain if a short period = thin lining but that is what Dr. Google said it could mean. I have an u/s next week and then I will chat about it with my doc. I also am a little concerned that my LP was only 9 days but it was only my first round of Clomid and I haven't ovulated probably since I was 16 so I'm not going to worry too much about that right now. I am hoping some extra acupuncture sessions will help with both my lp and uterine lining.

BTW you don't need cysts on your ovaries to have PCOS. The name of the syndrome is sort of a misnomer, and really it is a term used to describe a hormone imbalance that keeps women from having periods/ovulating normally. You need to meet 2 of 3 criteria to be diagnosed with PCOS. 1. Polycystic Ovaries, 2. Signs of high testosterone through blood work or clinical observation. This can male pattern hair growth, losing hair on your head, having a hard time losing weight, adult acne especially around the jaw line 3. Absent or irregular periods. PCOS is also a spectrum, some women have more severe cases than others. My PCOS is mild. Luckily I don't struggle with weight and don't have cysts on my ovaries. My blood work is completely normal but I tend to lose a lot of hair on my head, have whiskers, have adult acne on my back and chest and I have zero periods. Ever since following the PCOS diet my acne has greatly improved and no more hair loss on my head. I pluck my chin whiskers! I know its confusing but you will figure it out when you have your first RE appointment.

• I follow the PCOS diet. I learned most of my info from PCOSdietsupport.com which has a lot of great info on the science behind diet and its relation to PCOS symptoms. Basically it is high protein and healthy fats, no sugar, dairy, gluten, or refined carbs. It sounds like living hell but after a couple of weeks I was use to it. I do really well with no gluten/refined carbs. I am probably %90 sugar free (I have a few drinks every week). I am not doing super good on the dairy. i have probably 5 or so food items with dairy per week.
