Pajamas

What do you put your LO to sleep in?  Are they still in a sleep sack?

We live in Southern California, and today was a little taste of summertime heat.  We still put our son in some sort of sleep sack for every nap/night time sleep.  If it's cooler we put him in a long sleeve/footed pair of pj's in a short sleeve cotton sleep sack.  Tonight since it is warmer he's wearing a short sleeve onesie in a thin long sleeve fleece sleep sack.

As it continues to get warmer I don't know what is best for pj's or a sleep sack.  Is it okay to still have them in a sleep sack at this age?

I feel like the sleep sack helps signal to him that it's time to sleep, and helps keep him a little "controlled" in the crib since he loves to scoot and stand in there.  It definitely looks more comfy to be sleeping inside of something too instead of just being in the crib in his pj's.  I know I wouldn't be able to sleep well without some kind of blanket on myself!

I purchased an Aden & Anais wearable blanket and it looked RIDICULOUS on him.  It was SO long!! I don't know what baby it would ever fit!  It was really light weight which was nice, but since it was so long I feel like he'd get all tangled in it!

When is it safe for them to have a blanket in the crib?

Re: Pajamas

  • We have an A+A sleep sack and when she was a little younger, she wore that when she had fleece footie pjs and a fleece sack when she wore cotton pj's. I guess I figured the light and heavier materials balanced each other out! Now that it's getting warmer and she likes to sleep on her tummy, we just put her in her crib in jammies. I'm extra paranoid about her overheating, so I err on the cool side. We haven't had a problem so far! We are in WY too, so we don't have near the heat CA does!!! I bet if he is in footie pjs, he's probably fine! If not, I'd throw him in a sleep sack. I've found LO's feet and hands are coldest in the morning. Good luck! I've been thinking a lot about the pj's system too!

  • @cait040415 the A+A sleep sack you have, is it insanely long?  I loved the material and the no sleeves on it, but it was so odd in length!!

I'm worried about his association with sleep sack = sleep.  I'm scared if I take it away he's going to think it's play time in the crib.  Now when I zip him up he starts yawning and rubbing his ear, so it's like he knows!
  • LO sleeps in cotton footless pajamas both long and short sleeve with a crochet blanket that he usually kicks off. He has been sleeping like this since 4.5 months when he went to his crib and stopped consleeping.
  • I just started putting her in two piece pjs and wow they are cute!!! I wish I'd done it sooner. We got rid of our sleep sack way back during the 4 month sleep regression. Our LO likes the freedom. She also has a blanket in her crib now. I put that in there around 7 months.
  • Footed PJs from carters. The more light weight but tighter fitting ones right now.  We live in Indiana and its in the 70s and 80s each day here. It's about 72-75 in his room usually since its on the second floor of our home. He doesn't seem to be cold without a blanket or sleep sack.
  • Babydee makes a lightweight sleep sack that I love for summer.  It's very soft and better than A&A in my opinion.  My son is 8 months and wearing the medium.  The large is huge, but I have it and he will probably be in it in the next month or so.  I used a sleep sack with my oldest until he was standing up in the crib, then took him out and put a crochet blanket in with him.
  • We do 2 piece footless PJ's, usually short sleeve + pants or occasionally shorts. i usually cover him in a Tula blanket as well. I don't really worry about stuff in his crib anymore.

  • It depends on how warm it is, footless pjs or terry footed, sometimes a two piece set or a bodysuit. He has a blanket he kicks off. He never hand a sleep sack, he hated them. He scoots around at night but never wakes up.

  • We have a light cotton Halo sleep sack. It seemed long on her at first, but she's growing into it so I'm hoping it will last until she's 12 months. In winter we put her in fleece pj's in it, but now we are using cotton pj's since it's getting warmer. It's still decently cool in MN at night right now, and we keep the a.c. at 70. This summer when it stays 90 degrees at night, we'll probably use a long sleeved onsie in the sack at night, but we also keep the house cooler. As soon as she turns 1, I'm going to swap out the sack for the little quilt my grandma's friend made her
  • We have been using both the footsie pjs and two pieces (depending on laundry day and the weather). Now that its getting hot out and the AC is on we alternate between the two piece styles - short sleeved/shorts or short sleeved/pants. But my LO runs hot so these seem to help him not sweat so much :)
  • I have a ton of Koala Kids 2 piece pajama sets, they're my favorite and they're always on sale at BRU. I just started using a lightweight Halo sleepsack too, he usually sleeps better with it
  • We have been using footed sleepers from Carter's since LO was born. We started out swaddling over top and quit that around 3 months? Maybe 4? During the colder months we put a long sleeve onesie and socks under the footed pjs. Now that it's warming up we don't put anything under except maybe socks on cooler nights. During naps she sleeps in whatever clothes she has on for the day and I'll sometimes cover her up to her chest with a small blanket.
  • We used sleep sacks with our older three until they were out of their cribs (18 months). No pillows or blankets until then.

  • We never swaddled or used sleep sacks.  DD wears feetie Jammie's or a long sleeved onesie and pants with no socks when it's warm.

  • We only used a sleep sack for the winter because our house gets really cold and drafty. A couple months ago we switched to using a crocheted blanket over LO, with LO in footed pyjamas, either cotton or fleece depending on temperature.

  • We use a muslin,  summer - weight  sleep sack,  now.  Thicker ones when it was cold.

Now,  I seldom put him in anything but a diaper underneath,  but when it was cold, I'd do a long-sleeved onesie under the wearable blanket. Haven't used footed Jammie in a while,  because he's so long and lanky,  they don't fit well.
