Thin lining

Hi there,
I have been off of birth control since October and never got a natural period back. In January my Gyno gave me Provera to start a period. I ended up getting a light period on day 10 but never got another one. I tried another round of Provera in March and never got a period from it. I decided to get a second opinion and see a specialist. after blood work and sonograms they determined that all my blood work was normal but my lining is thin. My new doctor said there's no point in taking the Provera again because my lining is too thin to get a period. That being said I started the clomid without a period. I went back for a sonogram today and he said one follicle seems to be growing but my lining is still thin. I go back Monday to see if the follicle has grown.

Im just curious if anyone else has been told they have thin lining and if you conceived? Also, I've been drinking Pom juice, raspberry leaf tea and taking vitamins. My doctor said there's nothing I can really do to thicken it but I feel helpless?? Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Thin lining

  • I don't remember my lining situation when I was doing Clomid, but while doing IVF my doc just ups my estrogen and has me do them as suppositories to get my lining to grow. It seems a bit strange that a specialist would have you just start Clomid, as it is a cycle day specific drug. Hopefully things work out for you!

  • Strange that they put you on clomid, it actually made my lining thinner!
  • I have a very similar situation to yours and my dr put me on estrace vaginally while on Clomid, however my lining was still on the thinner side of what they want to see for an IUI which is why I think none were successful. My dr said some women just tend to have thinner linings naturally. I've since moved into IVF and will be doing estrogen shots in preparation for an FET so am crossing my fingers this works better.
  • Are you seeing an RE?

  • I second seeing an RE. Clomid can thin the lining. I took vitamins E and a baby aspirin along with Pom juice for the first part of my cycle and my lining was good at insemination, 9. However, I don't know if they really helped b/c I've never been told I have a thin lining. LOTS of people swear by acupuncture to thicken thei lining. Good luck.

  • I'd also recommend seeing an RE (or seeing another one if you're already aeeing one). Clomid is known to thin the lining. Other options (like Femara) might be better options for you. You may also need additional tests to figure out why your lining is so thin. I had a 3D ultrasound that showed a slight t-shape uterus which was later confirmed and corrected via hysteroscopy. However, it seems unusual that your cycles would be this long. Have they explored the possibility of PCOS?
  • My RE gives me estrogen packets that I rub on my legs to thicken my lining.
