Pregnancy breakouts

Help!!! I've never really had serious breakouts before - I get the occasional cystic, super-crazy throbbing under-the-skin guy every once in a while, but ever since getting KU'd, I have had major hormonal breakouts, mostly on my chin. I can't use any of my go-to acne products because they have salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide, and my clay masks aren't doing the trick.

Herbivore's Lapis Oil has definitely helped, but I just realized that the Eminence Organics cream I purchased from my aesthetician that was "safe for pregnancy" has - you guessed it - salicylic acid as the final ingredient.

I guess I could go the tea tree oil route, but this never worked that effectively for me in the past. Anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Pregnancy breakouts

  • Toothpaste maybe? I've never had bad acne but that's my pregnancy go to for annoying zits.

  • It is annoying but I just wait it out and use all the makeup!

There was a thread a while back about pregnancy safe products that had some really useful information. Someone posted a link from a credible website that showed what was safe and not -benzoyl peroxide was on the safe list. I've been using my acne gel with 5% bp since the beginning and it is THE only thing that gets rid of any acne I have. Also try exfoliating about once or twice a week, I've noticed that helps sometimes too. Try to find that thread though, it might put your mind at ease. Unless your doc specifically told you what they don't want you to use, of course follow their instructions.

Salicylic acid is fine unless you're eating it. I use it on my face every day and my OB says it's fine. Most of the studies referenced online are referring to internal use.
edit: same with peroxide. I'm using both tonight so I don't look like a unicorn at work tomorrow. Good luck!
  • I have no suggestions, but just wanted to jump on the bandwagon that my skin is soooo different when pregnant. What normally works is totally wrong now...it's like I swapped skin with someone else. Mine is currently red and itchy rather than oily (my normal). Another fun pregnancy symptom...
