Spotting after O?

Sorry if this is TMI, but DH and I played around last night (no penetration) and I had the big o. This morning I woke up to some very faint brown spotting. It has occurred a couple other times today after going to the bathroom--it's not leaking out, I only notice it when I wipe. I also had a BM last night beforehand during which I had to strain. Can these things cause increased discharge and, more so, very light brownish discharge? I had a similar episode last week except there was no apparent trigger. Went in for labs and my hcG and progesterone levels were "great". I'm 6w4d and don't go in for my first appt until 6/14. Trying to get some reassurance!

Re: Spotting after O?

  • Yep totally normal! Your cervix has a lot of blood flowing to it and it's easy to cause spotting by both of those things! Nothing to worry about :)

Yep. Just as I said on your other post titled "Odd Colored Discharge", I have been put on pelvic rest due to spotting after sex, pap smears, u/s, and BMs. Please use the search function instead of opening up a new thread every time something out of the ordinary happens. Women on this BMB have talked about this multiple times now. The fact that I offered you advice previously and it was either ignored or overlooked is discouraging.

  • Yes,  your cervix is stretching and sex during pregnancy can cause some spotting.  Happened to me last pregnancy.
  • @cjs260  Seriously? It's people with comments like that that really just zap the fun out of this. If you really didn't want to "repeat" yourself you could have just ignored it. She didn't exclusively ask for your "professional opinion". Geez, lighten up a little.
  • OP, sorry I lashed out on your thread. Anyway, I've had that with DS. It freaked me out! But my Dr said it's very normal because the cervix is so sensitive (as someone already said). But you can always call your OB if you're really worried.
  • @cj260 well, I won't argue with you. I just think we could be a little kinder about things and not get all "butthurt" when someone doesn't take our advice. You can respond to this if you'd like. I won't be. We obviously don't see eye to eye and I feel bad I started an issue on someone else's thread.
  • Ladies let's try not to boss one another around or discourage people from posting. This is "our" board collectively and there is not one leader or dictator.

I couldn't believe what I read on the Blump post the other week. It was so sad.

We are women who are on the journey to become mothers. Or already are. This is not how we would like our children to be treated right?

Anyway I say this ofcourse with a lot of love. This is a fun place for all of us to learn about our pregnancies together :) !!! So let's stick together.

OP, I too spotted after sex. It completely spooked me since the last time I miscarried in November we just finished having sex so I have been SO scared to do it. But my doctor continues to reassure me that in my pregnancy it's OK to have sex and that spotting after is totally normal.
  • Thanks to the two of you who had positive rather than critical responses.

I I went to my OB today and she isn't concerned. She said my cervix is "nice and closed up" which I suppose is a good sign. She said the discharge looks more like standard pregnancy discharge and not anything to be worried about. She drew another set of hcg/progesterone levels and I will get those results tomorrow. So, hopefully the levels have risen since last week when I first got them!
