Gift for Dr?

Did anyone give a gift to your Dr who delivered your baby? I know I've seen threads with gifts for shower hosts, and nurses, but I was wondering if anyone gave a gift to their Dr who delivered your baby? I'm leaning towards a nice note with an announcement with a picture.

Depending on the situation and your relationship with the doctor (was there an emergency, did you labor for days, were they especially supportive, etc) you could do anything from a birth announcement to a gift basket or flowers. You could also call the office and ask the nurses/desk staff for the doctors personal preferences with regards to food/hobbies/etc.

  • I only plan on sending a birth announcement. I liked my OB a lot but giving her a gift seems odd based on our relationship. I'd rather right a great review somewhere.

  • Lol nope. My OB didn't even deliver my son- in fact, he didn't even come to the hospital until 2 days after my CS. I found out after the fact, which I guess is partly my fault for assuming he would deliver my son, that he doesn't deliver 1st babies because apparently the deliveries take too long LOL! So he gets nothing
  • @valerie4786 - Your OB watched TV?!  I don't even understand how that's professional...

@Nicbert1214 - I find that odd but slightly funny.  You'd think he would have told you that prior to your delivery...

  • @rlworzalla I found it hilarious actually lol. Being that I was almost 42 weeks and I was going on my 30th hour of induction, I reached a point where I didn't care if the cafeteria worker in the hospital delivered my LO. But yes, I would have thought a doctor would be upfront about something like that right?! Guess not!
  • @Nicbert1214 my doctor didn't deliver my LO either and apparently never had any intention of it! It's a teaching hospital so two residents delivered him with two OBs from our practice supervising - but no one actually informed me that was the standard practice until I was already being induced.

Quite different from my first delivery where the doctor was present the entire time and we sent flowers after because we had such an intimate and lovely experience. I'll take intimate over clinical.
  • My doctor started his rounds at 5:00 am, checked on me every 1.5 hours in between his office appointments and ended up staying until 1:00 am to complete my unexpected csection even though he was not the on call that night. He was awesome and I feel so lucky to have had his support after reading some of these other comments. Maybe a gift is in order! I did cry and thank him for everything the next morning when he came to check on me at 6:00 am (five hours of sleep he got perhaps?)

  • I sent a thank you card to my OB. It was our second child and she has stayed late to deliver both. I have been happy with her care, and just wanted to make sure I communicated my appreciation.

During the throes of labor I promised myself I would send everyone a thank you card, but then I came down from the high and realized I had a newborn. That promise will go unfulfilled.

  • My OB delivered our little angel in July and he also delivered our rainbow baby this month. I have never seen a doctor so many times in my life and I feel like him and his nurse deserve so much more than my thanks! My OB ALWAYS wears a bow tie and my mom found an outfit for DS that has a bow tie on it so we are going to dress him in that for my 6 week visit and hopefully get a picture of the two of them. I'm not sure what I'll bring him, but I'll probably get flowers for his nurse.

  • @bltbear82 isn't it crazy how we see these doctors so frequently and they never bother to tell us something like that? Or is it our fault for assuming that our OB doctors who take care of us for our entire pregnancy would just choose not to deliver our LOs?
