    @BornReady I love Shel Silverstein!
@reneeannemm Anne of Green Gables is a family treasure in my parents house. We named one of our cats Cordelia.
@dubcompanion I loved my American Girl Doll- I had Kirsten. I desperately wanted to be blonde, Swedish pioneer (kids are weird). The books are great.
@rainbowturtles That is so cool you play the uke! I am learning to play ukulele. Sort of. DH got me a soprano uke for my birthday, but I think my stubby and not so dexterous fingers would be better suited for a concert size while I get the hang of it.

    2. Status (WTO, TWW, Benched, etc.): WTO- CD12. Had acupuncture last night and my acupuncturist is optimistic about the timing of my treatments- I should be Oing Monday, and I have an appointment on Tuesday.

    3. Rants/raves: Rave- I made dinner reservations for our wedding anniversary in 2 weeks at one of the best restaurants in the city- we will be dining on the 37th floor of one of our city's tallest buildings, enjoying panoramic views of the city at sunset. And I won't be PG yet, so I can enjoy a glass of wine with dinner.

    4. GTKY: What are the nostalgic TV shows, toys or books that remind you of your childhood? We didn't have TV growing up (hippie parents) but I read a lot. So The Phantom Tollbooth, The Chronicles of Narnia and all of the Beverly Cleary books.
  • @catiecatp It can take up to a year, but it depends on caseload at the particular processing center you have to apply through. I'm not sure where Texas residents apply.  However, there is yet another form you can fill out that would allow him to work in the country like he had a green card while his application is pending. As a side note, while his application is processing, he won't be able to leave the US except for emergencies (death in the family, etc), and even then you'll need a special form to notify the government and get the OK. They really frown on leaving the country, and our lawyer advised us strongly not to leave while we were waiting for our interview.

  • Sorry for posting and running yesterday. It was my first day back to work in four days and I had a lot of catching up to do.

@Wishilivedinflorida I totally remember those McDonald's toys. They were so rad! ;-)

@chloe97 I think a puppy would be a great choice...but that's probably because I'm desperate to get one myself. Lol. If it is something that you have been considering for a while, I wouldn't worry about it being a snap decision. It might be just what you need to help you heal.

@reneeannemm wow...what an ordeal! I can't stand people who use religion to control others. I'm sorry you had to grow up in that environment and now I feel lucky that I grew up on a very religiously liberal family.

@MissPrint1219 I miss my jelly shoes! I hope af stays away!

@yolandamunoz Did you enjoy growing up in Peru? I would love to visit someday. I'm sure you've been asked this a million times but have you ever been to Machu Picchu?

@iceandsnowflakes29 deciding and then starting to TTC again felt terrifying for me too. Everytime I POAS I am both excited and terrified for it to be positive.

@fivetimesnoluck good luck with the BDing! ;-)

@spartanrd4 I love Lisa Frank and I really miss neon puffy paint! I wonder if they still sell it. I bet it's on Amazon. Lol

@areall sorry you couldn't start your vacation and leave with your DH. That would bum me out too.

@brooklyngirl18 I almost forgot about Amelia Bedelia. I loved her!

@karenbeth714 I loved Punky Brewster and I still have my purple popple!

@catiecatp good luck with your continuing interview process!
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @MooFish2364 I still have my popple too! It 's tail is missing and she looks a little rough, but she is still kicking it in my life.
  • @iceandsnowflakes29 I'm too scared to TTC again and honestly wondering if DH and I missed our window to have biological children. I'm 37 so I can't wait past when the REs plan goes into effect.

@Moofish2364@Wishilivedinflorida We are just  waiting on the home visit and then we will be adopting a 12 week old lab/terrier mix. I think we are going to name him Ernie. I've never had a dog and I worry about the cramp he will put on our lifestyle, especially as a puppy. I just hope DH doesn't think this is the magic bullet to heal me. My hormones are regulating and I'm starting to be extremely moody and pick irrational fights with DH.

On on a completely different note, am I the only one who is freaking the F out about this Zika stuff? Today I read this article about whether people who live in areas with mosquitos that transmit the virus should refrain from conceiving. What the what?! The virus hasn't even been transmitted in the US yet. We are alledgely outside the Zika mosquito zone, but I will tell you that I freak out if a mosquito even comes near me. How are you ladies down south doing with all this? It makes me miss winter!!
  • @Chloe97 Count me in on the freaking out about Zika business. I live in an area with lots of marshes (New England beach town) and we have a special town-run mosquito task force in our community. They are always out in their trucks, but I still see mosquitos quite frequently. @SnobunnieMel posted some spray in the TWW May thread when I asked about it this AM.

Congrats on the puppy! It's a lifestyle change, but you will adjust. My dog is 8 and one of the love of my life, despite his forever neediness.
  • @chloe97 i am pretty freaked out by Zika also. I live in New York and my dr advised me to not travel anywhere in the south, fl, south carolina etc. I was shocked! what about all the women who live there? We haven't even had any cases of zika being transmitted here in the US. My parents have a house in florida that we visit several times a year but I guess we will hold off until we see how everything plays out. Hopefully everyone is just being overly cautious. that being said, I was bit my a mosquito this weekend and have been staring at the bite non stop. My dr recommended using deet 30%, I found it pretty easily on amazon.

@chloe97 I am freaking out terribly. I called my OB who said to calm down but to be careful, since Southeastern PA is now part of Zika-range. She recommended repellent, long sleeves, socks, etc for both of us. DH pretty much has agreed to placate me and wear buy spray all of the time. Baby making gets sexier when you add Off bug spray...

AND now they are discovering that Zika can stay in sperm for 8 weeks (originally it was 4 weeks...)

At least this gets me out of going to the jersey shore with his family this summer since the shore is even more Zika-friendly.
  • 2. Status (WTO, TWW, Benched, etc.): WTO, CD 27.  I'm still regulating post MC in February, apparently, as my body isn't sure what it's doing. After getting my first AF, I believe the next cycle was anovulatory.  The next AF was hardly so - mostly brown spotting for a week.  Now waiting to see if I ovulate this cycle; CM was shaping up nicely, but I'm not turning any OPKs (I did last month, though it happened right before the spotting began).

    3. Rants/raves: Rant: Like @chloe97, I'm getting freaked out by Zika and the warm weather to come.  I am stocking up on the mosquito repellent as they are highly attracted to me...even if I have no plans to travel south this summer.
Rave:  tomorrow is my Friday, so a super short week makes me happy.  Work has been hell for the last 3 weeks, so I'll take another long weekend, even if I'll be at a work-related conference.

    4. GTKY: I loved Barbies and Polly Pockets as a child.  How was I ever entertained by a tiny half-inch doll that only could bend at the waist, I have no idea, but I had tons of them.  I was a total girly-girl.

@brooklyngirl18 I loved Amelia Bedelia books!

@Spartanrd4 I hear you on the wonky cycles.  I was hoping to be one who regulated quickly, but it doesn't appear to be happening.

@SnobunnieMel  Just a word of warning about the lemon eucalyptus oil. First let me say I used it in Mexico and touted its benefits as all natural on this board a few months back. Turns out the CDC specifically says do not use Lemon Eucalyptus oil on children under 3. They haven't tested it on pregnant ladies yet so no one knows if it's safe or not. It's probably fine for TTC, but I'd switch to DEET (I know counterintuitive) when you get a BFP.
  • Maybe it's because I live in the north, but I really am not worried. I'm currently nursing a doozy of a bite on my leg. There have been no cases of mosquito-bite-related Zika in the US, and until there are, I've got plenty of other things to worry about, like being able to get a pregnancy past seven weeks. I don't mean this in a bitchy way towards anyone here by any means, but I think the media is hyping it up a bit and those of us post-loss are quite prone to worrying anyhow. I'll probably feel differently if/when I do get pregnant again. I do feel that basic smart self-care is warranted, like insect repellant and covering up when you'll be in an area where you're likely to get bit.
  • @Wishilivedinflorida I totally hear you. What you are saying is what my rational brain thinks. What my 2 week post-loss, hypochondriac, overly anxious brain thinks is "Why is the natural world conspiring against me having a healthy pregnancy?" Also I work in public health and so Zika is the hot topic people won't stop talking it. In fact, I'm pretty sure that my boss thinks my baby had Zika bc she only knows a few details- I was pregnant with a baby with a condition incompatible with life and I was in Mexico the month before I got pregnant. (She tried to talk me out of going)
  • Oh dear @chloe97 that sounds like a perfect storm to amp up the anxiety. Totally understandable. Hopefully your boss never mentions that out loud to you.
  • i got bit this weekend through my yoga pants. so much for covering up  :/

  • I live in SE Georgia and am typically covered in mosquito bites all summer long. They heart me. I am going to remain rational, but I absolutely think it will be a factor here and something else I just have to be proactive about.... I don't think it will spread in the US with the same swiftness it has in less developed countries and I am hopeful (perhaps naive) that I can avoid exposure if I make a little effort.

I am fortunate that I have air conditioning, am not required to spend significant time outdoors, and can afford protective measures such as bug spray (with lots of DEET) and/or protective clothing.

That said, @chloe97, I totally hear you on the "Why is the natural world conspiring against me having a healthy pregnancy?" I try to just laugh.....

  • 2. Status - CD 41 and still no AF. Boooooo

    3. Rants/Raves - My rant was posted separately about my gram giving me a nice call out in front of a bunch of family members, saying I was probably pregnant just didn't know it yet. Grrrr
My rave is that I just got my first 30 day supply of Arbonne which is supposed to regulate hormones, fingers crossed. The seven day cleanse and 30 day program will end the day before my birthday...really hoping for an ovulatory cycle as my bday present!

    4. GTKY - I LOVED Goosebumps books must've read everything R.L. Stine wrote. In my younger years my sister and I watched a lot of Ducktales and My Little Pony. And then a little older my gram had us watching Anne of Green Gables, The Waltons and Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman (very sheltered life I led). And for toys I had a red head Cabbage Patch doll named Libby and maybe my favorite was when my dad hooked up a sled to our dog Leftie and let him pull us all over the yard. We grew up in the sticks

  • Hey @MooFish2364 yes! I enjoyed a lot growing up in Peru. I was born in Lima, the capital, a huge city (9M) next to te sea, charming and chaotic. Lots of different cultures to absorb, and to learn from, and to be curious about.

yes I've been to Machu Picchu, and to Cuzco. It is an amazing magical place to visit. There are so many spots to visit and to do different things, suitable for people with a wide variety of interests, and at any price too! I strongly recommend visiting Cuzco and of course also Lima.

Now I live in Chile and I am close enough to visit often (4 hour flight). I haven't yet brought my gringo husband to Cuzco, though! And I am ashamed!

  • so update on me - whirlwind trip and interview - and I can't remember what, if anything I've said so far... excuse me if I repeat myself, I'm on not much sleep...

Started Tuesday - we landed just before they closed the airport for a huge thunderstorm. Sat on the tarmac for 45 minutes before debarking because they wouldn't attach the ramp in the storm. Got off and my phone started buzzing emergency alerts about flash floods (didn't see any of those, but wow lots of rain). Had a lovely tour around parts of the city that I'd be more likely to live in (ie/ not down town) - in part because of the rain.

Wednesday morning I was up at 6:30 and out the door and with a committee member by 8:30. Headed over to campus and met with the president and VP academic success (and the head of social science too) for about an hour. Then walked around campus (holy cow beautiful campus - never saw a prettier one!) and then lunch, teaching demo, interview. On the way to the airport they made an offer - well a verbal offer with no details. In the evening I had an email with some HR links - but they don't work and I'm delaying calling about that until I talk to my former supervisor (on her recommendation). It was a formality - I was the only one invited for a campus interview! I was supposed to get in at 8:30 last night (which would be 9:30 in San Antonio) but thunderstorms in Houston delayed my flight so much that rather than risk missing my connection (and the connection after) I flew through Denver to Vancouver then on to Calgary - I got in at around 1 am - in bed around 1:30...

So now we have to decide - no clue on the timeline of the decision - but I'll figure that out this afternoon.

Question - one of DH's non-negotiables is that we have to be able to go together - I'm not to go ahead of him by even a few weeks. What do we need to do to make that happen? I'm guessing a temporary visa? We have a US consulate in town that I can make an appointment with within a 2 week period from when I look at their available slots on the website.

  • *****TW re: MC experience/details and approaching what should've been EDD****

    1. Introduce yourself (if you're new):
Not new but I did drop off the face of the earth for a bit (or the face of the bump anyway). I was just getting in some not so great head space and needed to take a break from everything.  So I suppose I should do a recap:
I had a MC at the end of Nov 2015. I found out at 12w5d that the heart stopped beating at 8w and decided misoprotisol (Cytotec) was the option for me. At what would have been 13w I "officially?" passed the baby. In January I began bleeding and essentially bled for 6 damn weeks, which almost resulted in a D&C, but somehow didn't.

    2. Status (WTO, TWW, Benched, etc.): TWW. But I haven't been temping and I didn't quiet turn an opk positive, so either I didn't O or I missed my LH surge. This cycle has been very weird too. AF was very light for 3 days followed by 5 days of sporting, then nothing for 6 days and I've pretty much been spotting daily since last Friday with some cramping since Tuesday.  Currently on CD 21, expecting AF next Tuesday but who the heck knows anymore.

    3. Rants/raves: Rant: 1. see above^. This is the most confusing cycle I've had since Feb and at least then I had a reason for the weirdness. 2. Tomorrow would have been my due date, so there's that. Got good and drunk and cried (okay, wailed/sobbed) about it last weekend, which felt good. I'm nervous about how tomorrow is actually going to go. I took the day off work and me and a good friend are getting out of this damn town, so hopefully that helps.
Rave: I have my first appointment in less than 2 weeks with a gyno! I'm nervous but feeling hopeful that I'm taking a step in the right direction to figure out what the heck is going on.

    4. GTKY: What are the nostalgic TV shows, toys or books that remind you of your childhood?
This is such awesome timing, HARRY POTTER. I actually just bought the complete book set for my ereader yesterday. Hoping to read all 7 books before the 8th is released on July 31. Also, if we're going like actual childhood I'd have to say The Big Comfy Couch. Because of Lunette I have perfected the 10 second tidy! Haha.

  • Welcome back @roper2617! My first due date is rapidly approaching. Will be thinking about you tomorrow!!
  • Congrats on everything @catiecatp and such a bonus that you were the only one invited for an interview!  Does the college / university have any ability to help DH with employment? I know that many people deal with the "two body problem" of academia and I know at my DH's institution they are often able to accommodate with a position for the accompanying spouse as well.

Glad you liked San Antonio and felt it was a place you could see yourself living in. Was DH able to travel with you to check it out?
  • @bornready - thanks we're still waiting on details but we're leaning towards going even more now. Calgary has always been temporary - we thought 5 years for grad school, then the PhD took an extra 2 years and then looking for a job has kept us here for nearly another 3 years... Our bedroom still doesn't have much on the walls. It is driving me a bit nuts to not know the details and therefore get no further with planning. I hope we have something by tomorrow - I could get them a preliminary answer and start negotiating by Monday if they did.

DH isn't an academic so I didn't ask about finding him a job too - I think I'll ask if they will extend in district tuition costs right away in case he wants to go back to school. If he does he's thinking of HS teaching and he'd be STEM, so there is a demand for his skills. Plus he'd be amazing at it. And I'll ask for guidance on immigration stuff for him in case they have contacts and resources to help. Because near as I can figure I need to be there by August 15th and that is soon considering we have to pack and move and all sorts of things.

I can see myself living there - DH didn't get a chance to go see it. But at least the area the college is in he will like - there is a lake and nature - no ski hills, but he'll live (and we'll vacation on ski hills versus beaches all the time). I don't know of a bigger decision we've made - even getting engaged sort of snuck up on us and just seemed like a natural progression - moving here to Calgary was temporary and only a 7 hour drive from where we were... I guess the only other comparable was deciding to TTC because we weren't as settled as we had hoped
