Let's talk music and playlists

This is something I haven't actually thought about until recently. My music choices change SO much depending on my mood, so I feel like I need to have several options available. Problem is, I'm not motivated enough to make 6 playlists. I would love input from everyone, but I'm particularly interested in STMs + who have had a natural birth. Did you want to hear something upbeat to keep you positive, did you prefer soothing music to calm you, did you want to hear nothing? Any Pandora stations or pre-loaded playlists that you would recommend?

Re: Let's talk music and playlists

  • I love all music. With both of my previous births though I didn't have music playing. I do recommend Lana Del Rey's station. Will see if I listen to music this time around.

  • If you are planning to listen to music I would definitely make a bunch of play lists.  I didn't listen to music at all but a lot of the other things I thought I would want ended up be very different once I was in labor.  I thought I would want to be in the tub or shower and that was the last thing I wanted.  I also thought I would want someone to talk me through contractions and I didn't.  My desires definitely changed once I was in the middle of labor.
  • DH had made a couple of playlists, and we switched between them at different points during labor. By the time I was pushing I couldn't even tell you who was holding my leg, let alone what song was playing. It was definitely good to have during labor, though. I would take the time to make at least 2 different playlists (one upbeat, one more calming), because you'll probably want both.

  • I *thought* I was going to listen to Mozart's "Requiem Mass" (my calming jam), but ended up getting a c-section and all plans went to shit. I'm not really sure what I'll do this time around.  :/
  • @duffgurl Lana is my jam ... Also I have Florence + machine and the national on my indie/ slower playlist.  I also made a hip hop playlist in case I need to twerk this baby out haha - Logic, kanye, plus my 90s favs by tribe, Heiro, pharcide etc.. I'll probly have a pop playlist just in case with gaga, t swift, etc and a classical playlist if I feel like being a classy broad in the delivery room.  I'm kind of all over the place with the music I like!
  • We used Pandora with DD, I pay for their cheapest service monthly so I get some skips with that. And I listen to it so often that most of what plays I like. It was really fun to not know what to expect. I listened to everything but truly wanted more of Motown and Funk. Which cracked me up! So random!

I do recommend if you think you want to use Pandora start now - thumbs up and down the music you do or don't like so by the time you are in L&D Pandora has an idea of your taste.

  • I second @jacmkelley on the Pandora idea! I love Pandora and not knowing what is coming next is kind of exciting!
