Freakin over a Fibroid

FTM and had my first ultrasound at 8 weeks (due Dec. 31) and got a call after I went home that they saw a fibroid on the ultrasound and have to come back 2 weeks later for another ultrasound to see if it grows. I go in Friday and will be 10 weeks. I can't help but be in a panic/freaked out that something is/will be terribly wrong. Anyone out there deal with a fibroid(s) with their previous pregnancies?

You probably have had the fibroid for a long time and never knew it. Fibroids are not uncommon and are usually harmless :) they just want to make sure it isn't a fast growing fibroid because depending on location & size it can cause you some pain, make a vaginal delivery more difficult, and cause extra pp bleeding - but those are only POSSIBILITIES. Some women have fibroids in their pregnancy and don't have any symptoms or issues. It's nothing to be too alarmed over, I promise! It's a good thing they are following up cause now that they know about it, they can be attentive to it if they need to be. Keep us updated, but try to keep yourself calm. • Hi, I posted about this a while back. I'm a ftm and was scared when they found a fibroid at my 12 week scan. They said it was on the outside of the uterine wall, overlapping the placenta. They said it was 2.5 cm by 2.5 cm and would probably grow with the baby. Reading about degenerating fibroids on message boards is overly scary and unnessary since  most fibroids disappear on their own after pregnancy. I'm not an expert at all, but from what I've read, if it is blocking the baby's path, you may need a c section. Like PP said, they are normal for many women and don't cause any problems. If you don't want to wait two weeks, maybe they could tell you the location of the fibroid over the phone or they could squeeze you in for a quick appointment to answer your questions. Best of luck. Keep us posted!
