Birthday gift help- NBR

I am going birthday shopping for my friends little girl who is turning one. Kicker is she is the second girl in their family and has so much stuff even her mom doesn't know what she needs, cause I did ask her.
So any good gift ideas for a 1 year old girl who has everything?

I was going to suggest an experience like PP did. Zoo, aquarium, children's museum, waterpark etc

  • Because they grow so quickly, I usually give gift certificates to clothing stores that the mom likes (carters, Hanna andersson, gymboree etc). 1st bdays are more for the adults anyway.
  • Gifts cards were going to be my suggestion, but the pass idea is pretty cool too, although I would think the little one may be a bit too young to really participate in or appreciate the experience? Just my thoughts though, not to say I wouldn't take my LO regardless!
  • @AllyTheKid - yeah that was my thought too. Not that it couldn't be fun anyway, but DS is nearly 18 months and I feel like he would only just now maybe start to think the zoo or aquarium was a fun thing.
  • One of my best friend's little boy got an aquarium/zoo pass for his 1st birthday and she thought it was the best idea. The last thing he needed was more toys!

  • if she doesn't have a BeatBo and likes lights/music you should definitely get her that. My friends son LOVES his. Also a water table is a good idea, given that summer is coming up.

If you don't like the toy gifts, or they aren't needed, I definitely like the idea of providing an experience, like a trip to the aquarium. If you're close with your friend and her daughter, maybe plan a day for you and both girls to go which would not only be a gift for them, but also a gift for mom and dad :)
  • Maybe a gift certificate for something like a Gymboree class?
  • I like the experience idea.  Or books.  I love for my son to get books.

A membership to a museum, preserve, zoo, national park? Or a gift certificate to an activity like an indoor playground or something else kid friendly?

ETA: our children's museum has a toddler activity area on every floor and I used our membership at least once a week in the summer when DD was one. We renewed when she turned two, at a locked in rate, and we still go frequently.  We also use our membership to the Springs Preserve, and Red Rock National Park often, especially in the summer.

  • Cute clothes are always a plus, especially since kids grow so fast. i second  the book idea. Anything to advance a child's education is always beneficial.
  • Thank you everyone for the suggestions! I will look into some activities, we don't have a lot here but I'll have to ask around!

  • Having just done the first bday thing for my son, I agree with everyone else that experiences would be more fun than toys. I also think you can never have too many books. Or clothes mom wouldn't splurge for herself. I also recently got a mailer for a subscription to a toddler-friendly magazine, from National Geographic or Highlights, I think- that could be different and fun, plus educational.
  • Gift certificates for experiences are a great idea, but I'd definitely ask the parents first.  Unless you're offering to take the girl, they might create an obligation on the part of the parents to take the whole family or cause some friction if older sister has to stay home.  But I know I'd appreciate a pass to the children's museum for my toddler and I know he'd appreciate it too.
